Black latinos. It makes sense that you don't know them because there are almost none in Argentina

It's a reality show with the professional wrestler Bill Goldberg and his wacky family.

Betty White’s passing got me thinking, what some shows that only has one surviving main cast member? Not counting child stars, like Ron Howard with the Andy Griffith Show.
So far I have four:

Marla Gibbs, The Jeffersons
Tina Louise, Gilligans Island
Dick Van Dyke, The Dick Van Dyke Show
Barbara Eden, I Dream of Jeanie

Yes but it's only in grunts and Bret doesn't realize he's apologizing.

Finished Midnight Mass. I feel like if I wanted to describe current Hollywood screen writing I'd use this show as an example. It's hits everything on the check list. Every character is entirely defined by past trauma. They don't really ever come to terms with it or anything they just voice it for the audience. Check. It must subvert expectations so the audience spends time with a character who they are supposed to think fills the traditional male hero lead role but you kill him off. Check. The men are all useless really its the woman who will decide how things go. Check. Towards the end a character realizes he killed everyone he was trying to save including his kid (because of his own trauma of course) and another character just looks at him with a sad smile and softly kisses him because there are no villain's just victims. Check. Then the real main character sacrifices herself to kill the big bad except it doesn't pay off because PRESERVE THE SEQUEL. Check. Of course you must have several twists throughout. Problem is that now that the audience is programed by every other tv show and movie to expect twists so they see them coming a mile away. Check. So....what do you do get when the audience expects you to subvert their expectations? Midnight Mass.

It had some good performances. I like the showrunners acting troupe. My wife loved it. Its just the anti paint by numbers is the new paint by numbers.

Specifically, they VOICE it--I'd wager at least 45 minutes of this eight episode show was spent, collectively, on trauma monologues. The most absurd was the muslim cop's five-minute 9/11 story. Dogshit, contrived, Sorkin-inspired inflation of narrative stakes.

Anyway if you're mad about the easy substitution of "trauma" for "backstory," there's a provocative New Yorker article about this:

I'll give it a read. I first really noticed it with modern Star Trek. ST: Discovery and ST: Picard characters are entirely defined by trauma which is the exact opposite of what Star Trek was always about. I takes you completely out of the show and in to the writers room where every character is just an is avatar for one of their issues. There was an episode of STD where one of the characters had to explain to a fellow belligerent Starfleet officer what trans and non binary was. Now I'm sure the writers thought the were being inclusive but what was the message? That a thousand years in the future trans people are still going to have to explain what trans means? That in a universe where people are fucking and having babies with people from other planets trans or non binary is a unknown subject to a Starfleet officer? Star Trek was always about how humanity finally got their shit together and they go out and seek new life and new civilizations and it's the aliens that are fucked up and are allegory for current events. Humanity is past that shit. Not anymore. Humanity is just as fucked up in the future as they are now. Can't wait.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

When is Conan going to stop with the Sona stuff? Do people actually like Sona? Do they think she's funny? She was his assistant and now she's like the co-starring lead of everything he does. And she doesn't have the comedic talents of Andy Richter who knew when to talk and when to be quiet. She just talks a lot and has nothing to say, well near ruining everything she touches. It's getting so I can't look at any Conan content anymore, since it's basically just Sona content. And she's not funny! Argh
