I like Manhunter but I always laugh at the part where he’s talking to himself while sitting in the tree

Manhunter is glorious. It might be just too much for a lot of people. Red Dragon is so bland and safe it hurts. Havent seen Hannibal Rising nor i ever will.
Hannibal is pretty cool.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

If you like Verhoeven you'll like this and if you don't, I suspect you won't. Not one of his best, I don't think, but I had a really good time.tragabigzanda wrote:How was this?Mickey wrote:Benedetta

Re: What movies are you watching?
I've said before that I like to go overboard with my hatred of Manhunter. There are things about the movie that work and things that don't. It's not for me and for some reason I enjoy ripping it apart. But one thing I'll never bend on is how utterly terrible Peterson is. Such an awful actor.
The rest of the movie is actually fine but I'll continue to harbor an irrational hatred of it and happily call it utter dogshit whenever I can.

You can do whatever you want joe and thats fine but the thing with opinions is that we all remember them
So if you call the female ghostbusters a film that matters and manhunter a piece of shit...well, we know then which one is the good one.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I'm not one for tearing things down. I usually prefer to focus on stuff I do like and interact with the story as presented. I think with Manhunter specifically it's that I genuinely find Peterson's acting offensive in that movie. As such it's an easy target to lean into and indulge my darker critical side.Mickey wrote:Why do you think that is?epilogue wrote:I've said before that I like to go overboard with my hatred of Manhunter. On top of that, my friend Matt (with whom I have a healthy, brotherly competitive relationship) really likes the movie and kind of demanded that I like it, too. When I didn't he got pissy about it and so giving that movie shit is funny to me on that level.
I'm not a big Michael Mann fan, in general. I know LV loves him and Manhunter specifically. I think fondly on our good natured back-and-forth about it. And I miss LV. Leaning into an absurd and heightened "hatred" for Manhunter reminds me of the fun I used to have with LV, so in a way, I feel kind of connected to him.
All of it is good natured on my end. Something I find funny. A small, petty indulgence which is out of character and not something I often allow myself to lean into. But for the above reasons, this one is fun to lean into.
That's way I think that is.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Both movies are subpar movies on their own terms. Ghostbusters is meaningful for cultural reasons. Manhunter is not. Manhunter might be the better of the two movies but that's not at all what I'm talking about when I talk about the relevance of Ghostbusters -- or "how it matters."VinylGuy wrote:You can do whatever you want joe and thats fine but the thing with opinions is that we all remember them

Which in and of itself is a bit out of context and an oversimplification of my initial thoughts about that movie.
But whatever. Like what you like, my man. I won't hold it against you.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I do not think female Ghostbusters is meaningful. A blip in the culture war. I'd already forgotten about it.
