I just know that pilots are sometimes the weakest episodes, so I'm just wondering. I watched it two weeks ago and have found it hard to muster the enthusiasm to pick it back up

I can't engage with that kind of response. I found it compelling from the pilot (whereas I found Better Call Saul dull throughout much of the first season). It gets more compelling, but if you don't like the pilot I doubt you'll like the show (which, to be clear, is a moral failing).

No, that's why I said the part about knowing that pilots are often among the weaker episodes of a series

While the series gets so much better than the pilot, and i like how fun it is, its also not that different...even visually, its kinda the same as the first episode.

I guess my biggest grip with this series is how uniform the whole thing is visually. There were some cool framing in season 2 and thats kinda it.

Again, Better Call Saul is on another level.

Still this one is really fun.

i've never seen a single episode of Better Call Saul, and maybe...maybe the first three episodes of Breaking Bad.

why are we comparing a show about meth to a show about an awful wealthy media conglomerate?

are you basing it off of the critical acclaim those shows have received v. what succession is also receiving?

Im not comparing them on terms on what they are about, but in terms on characters and visual style.
And yes, on terms on critical acclaim too.

But now that i think about it, they have some similarities on what they are about right?

I have a working pet theory that Argentines in particular love Better Call Saul. I was down there in 2015 and everyone I knew kept raving about the first season (which, again, I found incredibly drab and dull, especially on a visual level, though the ending was good).

Interesting because I find BCS one of the most beautifully shot shows I've ever watched. I think the thoughtfulness and artistry of its framing is one of its key strengths and what really puts it over the edge in comparison to the middle-shot drudgery of most TV, prestige or otherwise
