I think all but the most ardent adherents to tEh ScIeNcE know that masks are not foolproof protection at this point. The mitigation is minimal, which means they're not very effective, which means they don't really work. Trust the semantics!Jorge wrote:"Work" is a weird word, anyway, when it comes to this. Not sure how my unfortunate situation supports the mask don’t work argument. Glad I could make some of your days though.

I propose a change to the "masks don't work" slogan to "masks work a little"macphisto wrote:I think all but the most ardent adherents to tEh ScIeNcE know that masks are not foolproof protection at this point. I've grown to see you as a father figure. So the fact that you have covid at the same time as my actual real-life father is fitting. Thankfully both of you are protected and your symptoms aren't too bad. Good luck and remember to stay hydrated (not because of covid, but it's just a good thing to do in general)spike wrote:Not sure how my unfortunate situation supports the mask don’t work argument. Re: Anybody want a Corona?
I've heard from a lot of people who got sick. I'm still waiting on someone to tell me that they got exposed while wearing a mask.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

It's more than a little and less than 100%. In combination with a little distancing and vaccines you can get pretty well protected with minimal effort.Jorge wrote:I propose a change to the "masks don't work" slogan to "masks work a little"macphisto wrote:I think all but the most ardent adherents to tEh ScIeNcE know that masks are not foolproof protection at this point. It's true that we're all probably going to get Covid at some point in our lives. The main thing is that we don't all get it at once and overwhelm the hospitals.

Maybe it's not the best analogy in the world, but at least I'm not macphisto.macphisto wrote:Seat belts work far more often than they don't. Do you wear seatbelt, mac?
It's got to be about 99:1 "the seat belt saved his life" vs. "he would have been able to get out if not for the seat belt."
How's this analogy going for you?

I’m just one person, but last year the one time I forgot to wear my mask at a football game I caught Covid from the guy next to me. Take for that what you will.

Masks are so ineffective that you aren't even protected when you aren't wearing them!lennytheweedwhacker wrote:I’m just one person, but last year the one time I forgot to wear my mask at a football game I caught Covid from the guy next to me. Take for that what you will.

One of the companies I'm doing work for keeps trying to get people to come in, but it's going very badly. I think with omicron, they've given up for awhile.
