I think all but the most ardent adherents to tEh ScIeNcE know that masks are not foolproof protection at this point. The mitigation is minimal, which means they're not very effective, which means they don't really work. Trust the semantics!

I've grown to see you as a father figure. So the fact that you have covid at the same time as my actual real-life father is fitting. Thankfully both of you are protected and your symptoms aren't too bad. Good luck and remember to stay hydrated (not because of covid, but it's just a good thing to do in general)

It's more than a little and less than 100%. In combination with a little distancing and vaccines you can get pretty well protected with minimal effort.

It's true that we're all probably going to get Covid at some point in our lives. The main thing is that we don't all get it at once and overwhelm the hospitals.

Seatbelts don't always work though. Aren't you afraid you're going to get trapped in your car and burn to death?

Seat belts work far more often than they don't. Masks don't work far more often than they do.

It's got to be about 99:1 "the seat belt saved his life" vs. "he would have been able to get out if not for the seat belt."

How's this analogy going for you?

"I was hanging out unmasked with my sick brother five days ago," but yeah ... sure, I guess it could have happened checking out at the grocery store while wearing a mask.
