It requires a new post. It clogs up the whole board with people posting to just to give a thumbs up or down. If you allowed it to be integrated in the post it makes for a much easier reading experience.

This is definitely how the board ends.

I suggested something similar to Buggy about 15 years ago and he never responded. I see now that it's because it was a terrible idea.

So confused why you guys dont like this. It won't COUNT the likes or dislikes. It will say at the bottom of the post "given2trade liked this post". That's it. So if 10 people like it it will say the 10 people who liked it. It won't count the likes. I also don't think there should be a dislike option.

Alternatively we can all make threads unreadable with people quoting a post and saying +1!

Your solution literally counts the likes, and if there’s no dislike option I’M OUT

You're not wrong, but I can see this actually adding clutter. If implemented, you'd be replying to all the thumbs up posts saying they're not needed, only adding to the problem.

Huh? This does NOT happen on the other board. Literally have never seen someone reply thanking them for thanking them for the post, LOL. All it does is remove bullshit clutter of people quote posting to say "WOW GREAT POST BRO!!!!!"

Bammer you're an idiot it doesn't count anything. It just lists the names of the people who thanked for the post (or liked it, whatever). There is no running number count.

The purpose of this IS NOT TO REWARD PEOPLE FOR GOOD POSTS! It's a way to acknowledge to someone this is a great post w/o having to quote reply to the whole world and say that - which people do on here all the time.

I think what bammer is saying is that it still counts the likes in that you can see all the people that liked it. So while it doesn’t say “ten people liked this post” it will show that ten people liked the post

Sure. And that's bad? If Stip writes some huge post about how great some dumb Pearl Jam song is what's better? 20 people quote replying saying FUCKING AWESOME STIP! Or 20 people liking it and it showing up at the bottom of his post and he getting that satisfaction he made 20 people happy and the rest of us don't have to read 20 posts of "+10000000000"?

Think of Joey's post count. This would hit him hard.

I’m with you I’m just explaining bammers logic. This would also be helpful in putting a stop to all those Lenny quote pyramids

That’s fine but I think you’re trying to tell us that the names of people who like or dislike cannot be counted (WTF?) and that it is somehow less cluttery to do it your way than to simply show a running tally of likes or dislikes.

The social media apps are moving away from the like button because it is psychologically harmful. And you want to introduce it here? In 2021? What year are you coming from? Oh, wait, it's 2022? Even worse!

This isn't YouTube, Twitter, Facebook. They are moving away from the like/dislike cause it's toxic. But it's not a message board. People like/dislike all day long on this dumb website. They just post and and say "LIKE!" or "DISLIKE"! You can only do it if you are registered. And the reason you show the name of the person is it humanizes it and eliminates the need to reply with "great post Stip!" This is a small message board. Most posts won't get likes/thanks and if they do, will be just 1,2,3.

Think of a GD thread where someone posts something human. Instead of everyone feeling the need to reply "so sorry XYZ" some can just click "like" and show support to whatever the problem is.

Look, it works. Especially on a board w/ 100s of people not millions. Makes reading the threads so much easier. And allows feedback (positive feedback) to people who spend time writing something interesting w/o having to fucking quote reply "wow great post!".
