Well, if you were planning on attending a key party at the local ICU I might advise against that.

Everyone you’re meeting up with, including you, probably already has it anyway.

unfortunately, everything is a dice roll right now. i hate to say it, but it seems like no matter what level of precaution you take this is inevitable.

i also say that as someone who splits time with an ex in regard to child visitation. i feel like me and my wife have tried to dodge covid for so long. we're vaxxed, boosted, wear masks, distance, etc.

my kids are not vaxxed because their mom would throw the biggest shit fit if i did.

long story short, we're all moving targets.

If this very likely situation happened at my kid's childcare this week, we'd probably watch for symptoms and test him if a fever and runny nose got bad, in which case we'd keep him home from school and activities until we saw a negative test. Otherwise we'd keep the wagon train a-movin.

Is it, though? Deaths are still flat and we see new studies everyday suggesting this variant is in fact milder. I'm optimistic that everybody's getting their antibodies through a mild strain. (To be clear I would still avoid trying to get it and am not arguing for a let it rip strategy, but I'm optimistic based on the data we have so far and hope that this is the end of caring about case numbers.)

Why is this position treated as a heresy in some circles?

Why not wait until somebody actually says something before starting this argument?

It's maddening that if you're not all in, you're against (whether that be politics, vaccines, mayo).

what i meant by that is new cases are popping up left and right, and it seems like it's more than when the pandemic began. i don't think the severity is as much given that many are vaxxed and boosted, but there seem to be a lot more cases. we did just go through holidays though, so there's that.

I agree with this, with the caveat that the risk with this strain continues to be about hospital capacity and school illness closures. “Milder” means fewer deaths and fewer people in the ICU, but hospitalizations are still rocketing. This is still very much an illness that can put an unvaccinated person in the hospital, and the two weeks between now and the point where this thing has more or less burned itself out has the potential to choke our hospitals.

Just skimming page 815 of the Red Mosquito coronavirus thread, it appears that more of you are starting to board the reality train.
