Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

i like klinghoffer and he's spoken well of this watt guy. his credits do seem super pop, though. from the results, this isn't a direction i would haven liked ed to go in. i understand if he wants a different sound from a studio album, but don't let the guy help you write songs. at this point in his career he probably enjoys it, though. it's probably fun to hand pick his own band, as well. there will probably be a couple of songs that will stick, but i'm not expecting much from this project. hopefully josh homme or someone like that produces his next solo album.

This is who I was referring to.

I did notice that, in amongst the Bieber and Miley type writing credits (they’re both fine, just stylistically distant), he did some work on that Elton record.

Instead of the 2000 rave album, we get the 2022 pop record

Agreed, although I think “annoying” is perhaps being too kind!

I think it is safe to say that the cheese will be dialled up to 11 and this can be credited to Watt & Ed.

Withholding full pre-judgment but if this turns into the full on flop some of us are concerned it will be, the good news is Eddie didn’t put Pearl Jam’s name on it. For all we whine about Backspacer and Lightning Bolt, they are both varying levels of decent to good albums. Certainly not complete train wrecks. For me, Long Way is okay, though nothing particularly amazing - not embarrassing. The Haves is just awful. I tried again to listen to it and couldn’t make it through - 4 attempted listens and got through it twice both times a chore, though I admit the last minute is not as awful.

After spinning my record, I prefer The Haves. The lyrics feel a big tone deaf from a musician with millions, but that doesn't kill it for me. I mean, clearly, money has never been the most important thing for any member of Pearl Jam. The amount of money Eddie's left on the table because he prioritized family, charity, activism, personal health, and/or art is impressive.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

dont get me wrong, what they do with their money is their thing and the PJ guys have been doing so much great in the world im not discussing it.

Still, the lyrics are awful. The concept is horrible.

The tune is just atrocious, IMO. The lyrics are bad, but they might be the least of the song's problems.

I still think the opening sounds like a wannabe Crash Test Dummies “mmm mmm mmm mmm”
