No, eddie is not a douche neither brendan hahaha. Brendan said that eddie is given always the max in his performance, in the live shows, even when he'singing in the shower (douche).

I don't think so. The interplay is important. But we're not going to agree here: You're a big fan of Riot Act, right? For me, Riot Act is what happens when pop sensibility is sacrificed completely, and I really dislike it.harmless wrote:Really? It sounds to me that middle ground is watered-down PJ.ABNorman wrote:Guess we know who wears the pants there, then.Brambo wrote:Arghhh in a dutch interview with brendan o'brien, he said he love to make pearl jam songs with hit potential. But both sides of that coin are a little extreme. Bob wants to sacrifice quality and longevity for a hit, and Eddie wants to sacrifice accessibility for a statement. Middle ground here is best, with a few outliers either side.
Backspacer is probably as close as PJ come to the other side of the coin. Really fun and likeable initially, lacking substance later on.

I guess they mean mike, because brendan is talking about the member who wrote sirens.joostone wrote:http://www.nu.nl/muziek/3588470/produce ... ohits.html
Short interview with B'OB on LB.
Main points:
-He wants them to be more radio friendly. But the band won't![]()
-In the first LB sessions a couple of harder tracks were recorded but didn't make the cut (I imagine 'Ole' being one of them)
-Stone was much more on the foreground, involved, for the LB sessions. He likes that about PJ. He said their roles are always changing.

LOL yeah I was kidding, I just thought the title was funny in context. I translated the piece on my computer, what I got from it was interesting. Disagreement in the ranks. Of course we don't really know that no BoB would be better. S/T still had its problems and BoB wasn't involved. But it's still interesting that Ed has a drive to do more than just pop music.Brambo wrote:No, eddie is not a douche neither brendan hahaha. Sirens has some pretty obvious "flaws" if it wants to be a pop hit... But I'd love to really quiz Ed on how happy he is about the bells and whistles on it.stupidmop wrote:Fuck off brenden! A lot of people, including myself, are ecstatic about the new album and engage in entertaining, balanced and generally enjoyable conversations on this forum. All too often these true "fans" some in here and give there two cents about how they unconditionally love Pearl jam and if we don't we are not fans. Then they disappear. Or they stick around and make generalized comments about our personal lives without a clue as to who they are "bashing".Huell wrote:Its not a conversation man, you're on each topic running the music down. This is a place of great discourse. Say something constructive (positive or negative) and get an appropriate response. Say something like "anyone who bashes on Mike solos is basically saying they hate PJ. It's the same as bashing on Stones riffs"(which was the target of Harmless post) is ignorant and deserves to be called out for it.

Have you never heard that story before? Ed wanted to just give it away for a charity cd or something like that but brenden (and the rest of the band I think?) wanted to put it on the album. Ed admits in that rolling stone interview that sirens is pretty commercial, I assume he just rolled with it this time, hence brenden being so excited about it.

I'd heard it insinuated before, Ed's hesitation with Betterman, but this is the first time I've read about it explicitly. And the Rolling Stone interview... is that the one where he admits to courting "sentimentality" as he put it? Yeah I thought that was refreshingly honest.stupidmop wrote:Have you never heard that story before? On Sirens Stone plays for example, almost all the guitar parts. He was much more prominent during all sessions and plays a lot more than usual.

While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

Great points. This dynamic being discussed here is the essence of what makes Pearl Jam interesting to me. PJ is the band, from the very very beginning, who have sort of walked the tightrope between the old uncompromising indie rock world and the completely compromising schlock rock world.ABNorman wrote:I don't think so. If I wanted a band that completely disregarded pop and mainstream sensibilities, I would have just gotten into Sonic Youth. You want interesting, layered, experimental, left turns, no care in the world about how that relates to the "commercial" world? Sonic Youth is your band. I don't know why you'd evr bother with Pearl Jam. But SY never appealed to me because it always struck me as a "preach to the choir" band. PJ is the band that reaches out and grabs you, and while you're hooked in, you get some important statements.
