No. Not just luck. If you use a poor first word for the game, you get a smaller chance.

I’ve found that starting off with more vowels has helped me. Whoever offered beaut earlier, that was a good one.

but you can only determine if it's poor after you plug it in and get the results. unless you know the word (or letters of the word) ahead of time, the first guess is just that . . . a guess. there's nothing else at play besides luck.

what if the word is "crypt?" guessing a word with those vowels gives you no advantage.

Or some people’s first guesses are just luckier than others.
I would argue that a first guess is part of how a brain works.
So what's your argument for it (particularly as it relates to the outcome, which is on what your statement was originally based)?
What's my argument for how a person's first guess is a unique thought process? I don't really know what you're asking or getting at.
no, you're implying that a person's first guess (or its effect) is something other than luck. why that person decides on which word to use is something entirely different. but the effect of that first guess on the chances of that person solving for the word is purely luck, no?
There's luck involved but you can increase your odds but using words with more common letters.

Yeah, this is what I mean. We all choose different first words, and we are all different thinkers. The first word that you choose could luck you into an answer, but the way you get to it is unique to the way your brain works.

All I meant was that everybody's brain works differently, and this game proves it in a fascinating way.

100%.

it's like Wheel of Fortune's "we'll just give you all the letters that anyone would otherwise guess anyway." there's a reason for that.

I used 'grist' as my first word this time, I don't feel like knowing which vowels are used would be very helpful (at least not to me).
