Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
I'd hate that.
Ed's influence already dominates the band without adding in yet more of these cookie cutter rockers; throw it on the pile with Never Destination, SBWM, Who Ever Said, Getaway, Lightning Bolt, Gonna See My Friend, World Wide Suicide etc and ad nauseam.

I’m with Spenno. More Stone and Matt songs, please.Birds in Hell wrote:I'd hate that.

That said I do like this one ok. The outro was by far the best part.
I also like most of the ones Spenno listed, too.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

i think pearl jam only plays a few EV solo songs, correct? i like the new song a lot but i dont expect it in pearl jam setlists. i would, however, welcome a cover of REM's Drive at a pearl jam show, earthlings show, or pretty much any time eddie vedder sings with a band. i doubt that happens either. seems like he wants to keep the projects separate.

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
All of the EV solo songs have struck me as being really pedestrian, for lack of a better word; they're there for the time they run, and they seem to vacate my brain the second they're done. But the new song did encourage my first full listen of Gigaton in quite a while, which still is a pleasant surprise; it's a strong album when I had previously doubted whether the band had been capable of making one again. While I'll take good new music anyway I can, if I had to choose I'm happier to be optimistic about the band while being iffy on solo ventures than vice versa.

Seems like EV has the most influence over the set list. I don’t feel like he’s injected his solo stuff into PJ concerts tho. He plays Setting Forth but it seems Matt loves it?? That said I would love to hear a proper Pearl Jam live version of this new one. It’s the first solo song that really does remind me of Pearl Jam. Or at least the effort he gives to them.

So, he leaving 'Down' of Riot Act was a mistake. PJ wants to record another album soon with Andrew (did he mean Josh?). They had more shows planned for Gigaton tours. And 'Brother the Cloud' is not about Cornell, more likely to be about his brother.

I presume he means Andrew 'Watt', who produced his new solo record.joostone wrote:PJ wants to record another album soon with Andrew (did he mean Josh?).
Man, that sounds like a terrible idea.

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
Eh, he ended up giving a weird typical EV non answer on that. His initial was "no" and mentioned his brother, but then went on to ramble about songwriting.joostone wrote:So, he leaving 'Down' of Riot Act was a mistake. Ed seems very unable to talk about Chris. Kind of interesting.
Good article though! Not sure how I feel about Watt producing a PJ album but i much rather that than another BoB record. I liked the results from doing it in-house with Josh but that sounds like it would take a long while again if left to their own devices.
Watt is a huge fan. Sounds like they will be recording on and off with him throughout 2022 and in between shows/tours so....that could be fun!

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
Always open to what may come of new collaborations, but the few Earthling tracks we've heard don't really inspire confidence that a Watt-produced PJ record would really be all that different from a BoB-produced one.
As ever, my hope lies in the distant possibility that Stone and Matt are going to come in with a half dozen songs each, and the rest of the band are going to choose to just be thankful for the easing of the burden. If that could be the standing arrangement, I don't think I'd care who the producer was.

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
hard disagree. even with a polished turd from watt, they could at least put out 1-2 tolerable songs. i'd much rather that than waiting for an album when they're in their upper 60's.tragabigzanda wrote:I’d much prefer they take 10 years with Josh than two years with Watt
