Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
I only listened to The Haves once, so I mostly forget what it sounds like. Will keep that way.

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
The chorus is my favorite part of this song. I'm not sure about the bridge.
The last minute is pretty good, but it didn't floor me the way it did some of you. I do like when he holds those notes. It's one of the best tricks in his arsenal and he so rarely uses it.
I've listened to the Haves one time. Lets listen again.
Okay, as someone who really likes, and sometimes loves, Future Days, this is not good.
I am still excited for the album, though.
Right now:
Brother the Cloud: 3.5/5
Long Way: 2.5/5
The Haves: 1/5

I wasn't horrified until I heard it and was reminded. At which point, whether on or off, the horror had already taken hold.guitar_davey wrote:Horrified, huh?Jaeti wrote:Yeah. I like Future Days just fine, but The Haves makes it look like a 6-star song.

THE REAL DEATHMATCH QUESTION:
THE HAVES

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
Of course Cant Deny Me
Hell, even that acoustic solo version Ed did for that games shows award of Future Days was miles better than The Haves.
The Haves sucks musically and its the worst thing Ed did lyrically.

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
The Haves frames cynically-applied class warfare rhetoric with a love song. Can't Deny Me doesn't even bother to offer that much of a framing. Whatever you want to call that phony "solidarity, brother" junk nestled in Haves, Can't Deny Me offers it up with even purer and more artless distillation (at least the Haves doesn't show up to the protest thunking its cowbell in your face like an asshole and thinking it's entitled to be a fucking rallying cry).
I'll take The Haves in that scenario.
