Actually, I'm enjoying all of the new songs, and Backspacer was my least favorite of all their albums..... Followed by ST. I don't know if these are that much better, or I'm just getting used to the stuff they're putting out now.
A bit of both, I think.
Yeah, I think it's definitely a bit of both. This stuff is better than what we've gotten since 2006, but that's because they're getting better at doing these new kinds of things, not because they're really reaching back to a time when the songs were "better" in general.
Yup. I always said that if they *have* to make use of Brendan O'Brien's pop sensibilities (which isn't my ideal scenario), what they should be doing is fucking throwing themselves into it as much as they can. The thing is, if Backspacer was meant to be "fun", that's fine, but I don't really find any "fun" in it. Michael Stipe had fun; Eddie Vedder is far too self-conscious to be a pop star who doesn't give a shit. Generally I think that this album sounds fun. It sounds like a band experimenting with a bunch of pop sounds and throwing it all in, but doing it passionately and not tentatively. The way Ed delivers these songs is far more convincing and engaging than the way he delivered The Fixer, in my humble opinion. That song (and its album) kind of felt like an obligation in comparison. I always said that if they wanted to do a pop song, they should just fucking go for it with everything... and then I got "Sirens". So yeah, hats off.

Think we could actually get the first listen of Pendulum or Infallible from the first shows before the album actually comes out or leaks even?

I wouldn't normally think they'd play much before it comes out 3 days later, but I thought it would leak by now anyway, so who actually knows...

It's out the 11th in some countries so that won't happen.

My casual PJ friends and colleagues really like Sirens. I wonder what they'll think of Pendulum and Infallible if they are as "weird" as they're described.

I'm just a bit concerned that our 4 "weird songs" have turned into 2, based on the last couple of reviews. The album's going to feel pretty imbalanced if there are only 2 tracks which are dark and adventurous.

I'm just pissed at the lack of hard songs. Getaway and MYM are not enough. I have hopes for MFS to satisfy me, but even still, I wanted some a couple more harder tracks.

As long as they have more than dark and adventurous going on for them it will be fine i think. What I'm trying to say is that i hope they were able to put the adventurous side of those songs to a good use.

im sure they still have it in them, but they are getting up there in age, they may just start to completely mellow out soon. im excited for the more mid tempo album just to see what they have put together

In an ideal world, I really wanted them to stretch out a bit and create some of those great naturally flowing 6 minute gems like Present Tense and Not For You. However, I am more than ecstatic (there, I said it) with what we've heard so far.

So, if BS leaked 10 days out and LB comes out on the 11th in some countries, then we must be at the eleventh hour...

Or I could wait until the 15th...

Nahhhhh.

Ditto...i can do without their two and a half minute rockers at this point. Gimme something with a little more atmosphere and depth.

I assume itd leak when the first record stores get it delivered or something. So we're waiting for an over enthusiastic Australian record store employee to take one for the team.

They could still do heavy stuff if ed did stuff vocally with it that wasn't cramming as much words as possible into the shortest time possible.

I'll tell you what, you have me inspired to do it Doc! But then it's a question of "if I waited for the album to drop, I might as well do it properly and wait for the LP to arrive from 10C," which probably won't be until a week or two later...

If anything, I've always received the CD from 10C a day or two before the actual release date.

I don't want 2 and half minute rockers. I want a long 4 minute rocker like Do The Evolution or Life Wasted.
