My reasons are shallow, but here goes...

originally, i thought this was a period piece about settling the west. i enjoy things like that. i know now it's not.

over the holiday, i had a brief conversation with some in-laws here in okc, in-laws i clash with ideologically (big time), and one of them talked this show up like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. it was then i decided i would opt out. this particular person has also spouted off qanon-specific garbage i can't let go of, therefore their opinion means nothing to me.

awfully close-minded of me, i know.

The writing was hokey in the first two eps we watched. Lots of big, bad talk from people that made the show feel more like a soap opera than anything else.

And Kevin Costner.
i have also heard this on a podcast i listen to.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

it's basically a Dallas reboot
Hollywood is out of original ideas and has been for some time.

it's a real shame.

For me, Yellowstone seems very soap opera-y.

Also, as far as the genre of the modern "wild west" goes, Longmire scratched that itch and I don't feel like this would be as enjoyable to me.

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I have a suspicion that the show is avoided in certain circles for being kind of a red state thing, and I can see it treading those waters, but also it's just very good storytelling. Now I have to watch the trailers. Looks like they've done it a grave disservice.

Thanks again for the responses. I'll not bring it up anymore.

I had no idea there was a red state thing (perceived or actual) with the show.

Are people saying the same thing about the spin-off? That seems like it might be more in line with what some people want from the OG series. Just based on trailers, that is.

After Longmire Yellowstone has been sitting on my periphery, but I've never pulled the trigger.

Currently watching Manifest - they played Pendulum during an episode we watched last night

Fine.

Last week I was at a work conference in a posh resort in the middle of the otherwise rugged Texas Hill Country and all I could think about was how terrible it was that I was enjoying the amenities brought to me by a development group who didn't fully understand the otherwise rugged land, just like how Paradise Valley "improved" areas adjacent to the Dutton Ranch. As I went for a trail run across cacti and limestone laden landscape, I marveled that my cell signal never got below four bars. I thought about how if I fell and seriously injured myself on a rock, I could probably get myself to a hospital within 45 minutes. I thought about this conversation between Beth and Rip; “People have been saying that for a hundred years, Beth. I mean, they thought that barbed wire was going to ruin the frontier. There it is. The frontier is all around us.” "Rip, I hate to break it to you, but that's not the frontier." "Well, you can call it what you want Beth, but that's what it is." I thought about how, as city folk, nothing we will ever touch or see out in "the wild" is really how it once was. Not to the tourists, the developers, the frontiersmen, or even the indigenous people who got there "first."
