For PJ's fans, i agree.harmless wrote:Well, I think that depends. The guitarist of my old band is going to think Sirens sucks, guaranteed. He used to be heavily into PJ but hasn't been interested since Yield. But he wants loud guitars from PJ. So it just depends; some big PJ fans love Sirens, some casual fans do as well. But it's not really to do with your level of fandom.dimejinky99 wrote:If you we're joe casual and not an active Pj fan but had heard both singles, you'd pick Sirens over MYMharmless wrote:A lot of people think it's great.Neo wrote:Sirens still No.1 on the poll?![]()
If it was a poll on RollingStone.com for general audiences and casual fans, Sirens would be No.1 i can bet, but Pearl Jam's die-hard fans voting Sirens as best one in front of all the leaked tracks so far? Strange..
But for the general audiences, there is so little if any punk rocking tunes in today's mainstream rock charts, so Sirens definitely beats Mind Your Manners on that ground, where casual rock fans have the say.
I am happy that so many of you people love Sirens. At first, when i heard the track, especially that chorus-like poppy part, i thought this gonna get a lot of trash from the die-hards, but instead, it's getting so much love. And i like the tune, and i like the most of the PJ love ballads, but i always think of Pearl Jam as an edgy rock band, not as some safe soft-rock band like Coldplay. Even Ed wont defend the track and said in that Rolling Stone interview that "it is what it is and he doesn't care about Mark Arm's opinion nowadays"

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
It sounds like he doesn't feel the need to defend it, because a defence would imply unconfidence. I personally don't think it's safe like Coldplay at all. There's a little too much polish in the production, which makes the ears think "Coldplay". But it doesn't aim for the catchiness of Coldplay and the song's about more than love and rainbows and paradise. It's basically another PJ song about death and mortality.Neo wrote:For PJ's fans, i agree.harmless wrote:Well, I think that depends. Really strong song. For me personally, vocally Ed's showing more heart on these songs. I've found him to come across tired, and even bored sounding at times on the last few records. I'm not saying this for every single circumstance obviously, but to me, for the most part he hasn't sung this well in yrs. He sounds more 90's Ed than he has since.....well.....the 90's.

I mentioned before about Getaway being the best song for a TV apprearence.
I guess the LTRP Vignette means that's the song being played on Letterman's show - terrible choice if thats true.

I sent letterman a stamped (with irish stamps) addressed envelope for a signed picture once.
He sent it back signed to me and even wrote a little note.
Classy guy.
