I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Re: Post Random Movie-Related Thoughts You Have
Down here in Latin America, every English-language movie in the theater is subtitled in Spanish. For both spoken and on-screen text. This makes sense. I find it a bit annoying due to how the subtitles clutter up the screen, but over many years I've been able to train myself to ignore them.
Over the last couple years, though, film localizers have started to translate the text ON SCREEN. So if a character is texting on his phone, the phone conversation will be shown in Spanish (as opposed to the original English, with subtitles in the bottom third as with spoken dialogue). I hate this. Seems completely unnecessary and fully takes me out of the immersion.
The first scene in the new Scream movie, for example, features a long text conversation between two characters, and the text on the phone screen was in Spanish while the character spoke out loud in English. I don't like this trend.

Re: Post Random Movie-Related Thoughts You Have
One thing I love about old movies is when they're flabbergasted by things that are beyond normal now. I don't mean like technologies, because of course computers are cool in 1960, and phones are confusing in 1936. I mean kebabs, and margaritas.
In Panic in the Streets (1950), a break in the case comes when they learn the suspect likes kebabs. One cop has no idea what that is, and a second has to sheepishly admit that because his beat goes through the Greek side of town, not only does he know what they are, but he's eaten them and kind of likes them.
In Frenzy (1972), a housewife with a penchant for weird, fancy cooking (much to the chagrin of her meat-and-potatoes detective husband) offers her guest a "margarita", and lists its ingredients. It's obvious no one has ever heard of the thing. Two people taste it, and both are disgusted.
What a world, you know
