Game on!
Also, eight year extension for Kessel? I can handle that.

You make that face, but preseason games aren't a punishment for a top line player. It is akin to fining him Monopoly money. I don't think he should have been given any more games or anything like that, but how that is seen as any kind of punishment is beyond me.philpritchard wrote:Mecca wrote:Which is why that wasn't any kind of punishmentphilpritchard wrote:Well he doesn't get paid for pre-season games, so I think he's ok.warehouse wrote:is there anything in the contract about stick swinging infractions?

Well if that's the case, I pretty much agree with you. I don't think he should have gotten any regular season games, but I don't think he actually received much of a punishment at all. I think they did it so they could say he got suspended and avoid setting a precedent. And, obviously, I'm fine with that.Mecca wrote:You make that face, but preseason games aren't a punishment for a top line player. It is akin to fining him Monopoly money. one regular season game sends a message. He could have been suspended for this preseason and the next and it still wouldn't mean anything, IMO.philpritchard wrote:Well if that's the case, I pretty much agree with you. Always nice to see a win on opening night!
Awful looking injury to Parros though. That was scary... hope he's ok.

That was the most fun I've had at an Avs game in a while. Roy is the man.
MacKinnon is going to be a beast. The Avs are loaded up front. If they get some semblance of defense and goaltending, they can do some damage.

This seems roughly in line with the Flyers we've come to know over the last few years.warehouse wrote:flyers fired laviolette after 3 games...wtf did they even bring him back for?

It's amazing what a defensive system can do. The Avs are 3-0 because they work hard and compete in this new system.
Bernier looks like a good pickup for the Leafs.

Yeah, the Avs look great... the way they played last night was pretty similar to the way the Leafs have played since Carlyle took over: they do a good job of keeping the scoring chances down with a strong defensive system (I'm shocked the Leafs shot total was apparently 28 because they sure didn't have many good chances) and they create offense with a ton of speed off the rush and by battling hard along the boards. Duchene looked outstanding and seemed to make something happen every time he was on the ice.scrub12 wrote:It's amazing what a defensive system can do. As a Canucks fan who has long been critical of Vigneault, it is a beautiful thing seeing the Rangers getting fuckin' waxed in 2 of 3 games so far this season

Re: NHL Thread
flyers win their first game under new head coach craig berube. im kinda pumped they put chief in as permanent head coach instead of giving him the interim tag. he's also got ian lapperier behind the bench with him. they are obviously gonna move away from the run n gun style laviolette coached. im not saying they will be the 90s of the devils, but laviolette gave the dmen and goalies no help at all. id like to see a little bit more traditional style of play. forwards should always be defensively responsible, even in the opponents zone.
id also like to see a bench clearing brawl which includes the coaches. are there any pair of coaches tougher than berube and lappy?

Would anyone here drop Pekka Rinne and pick up Ben Bishop? My other goalies are Cam Ward and Fleury. I don't think TB is going to set the league on fire but Nashville is terrible.

Re: NHL Thread
I don't think I would make that specific move, but I decided not to keep Rinne in my keeper pool this year for that exact reason. He won't likely get a ton of wins and his numbers were pretty average last year.shinkdew wrote:Would anyone here drop Pekka Rinne and pick up Ben Bishop? My other goalies are Cam Ward and Fleury. Now, Rinne for Bernier, on the other hand...
