Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

I haven't listened to any of the non-singles yet.

“ “Can you hear?” hopeful the son, father-of-two Vedder, replies urgently. “It’s Echo Victor.” “When we love, invincible,” Vedder says as the last line of his dad’s “I’ll be on my way,” floats away into space.”

Uh, not gonna lie. I felt moved reading that last bit, both sad and hopeful. The “Echo Victor” and “when we love, invincible” lyrics sound a bit clunky and even slightly cheesy to me upon reading them, but I suspect they will not feel like that when hearing them because there’s clearly been some thought out into tying the album together thematically from the first song to the last. I like how it brings it full circle. And the fact that there are three generations of Vedder singing on this album together is pretty amazing and beautiful. It’s like Eddie is trying to simultaneously tell his daughters that he will always love them and be there for them as a father, and preparing them for his eventual departure from this earth.

My review

“EdS best solo album”

Some will like this album more than a couple of PJs records.

All the collaborations are excellent.

Ed sounds great

So you heard it in full? Any MP3s floating around?
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

These reviews are doing a good job of keeping my expectations low.
Earthling is an easy-breezy escape for the Pearl Jam frontman that never really pushes too hard, going for middle-of-the-road, classic rock radio appeal.
That said, I've been enjoying the live versions of these songs. I think I like every song I heard better than the 3 singles.
