I don't think they're having disagreements. Eddie's been trying to make stuff less poppy than BoB forever. If anything Bo'B keeps saying they're all easier to work with now.
Yeah but you read the article, right? It's very recent and said explicitly that BoB would like them to move in a more poppy direction but the band won't let him take them there. It was a short article and that was basically all it said, so it felt a bit more decisive than yeah, they're difficult but everything is fine. Is that news-worthy?
I wonder what they intend with poppy or mainstream.
Further than "Sirens", I'd imagine. Just a guess but I'd imagine BoB wants PJ to churn out more formulaic radio-friendly stuff akin to the stuff people are comparing that song to.
I don't think they would go too far into radio friendly territory after seeing how that turned out for Cornell now that i think about it.

I suspect BoB feels (probably correctly) that pearl jam could produce a whole album full of monster hits, and it kills him to see that squandered.

There is something to that, depending on how you think about music. Mastadon will presumably never be a band capable of writing a song that means a lot to hundreds of thousands, even millions of people. So you then produce according to what that band can and will do well. Pearl Jam COULD be that band. I could totally see a producer like BoB thinking it is his obligation to create that. In the grand scheme of music many of us would like it less, but the world might like it more.

Hmmm... so he's going by the potential he sees in that band in particular. Yeah, could be. I think I just have less faith that Pearl Jam could write a decent hit on purpose...

You may have a point. PJ is appealing enough to be able to pursue a wider popularity/commercial success than they did. I'm not talking just about music here. Media exposure pay a huge role in this. They may do a couple of tv performances in the US bout outside it's practically nothing. They're still way beyond what you'd expect from a band like them. I think B'OB may be overestimating his role in all of this though. You can use all of your Pro Tools tricks but it isn't going to guarantee you a hit record. Hell not even a cheesy sounding piano will!

So tenclub have released a 'video' of the audio of Black from Dublin in 2000. Ed does a stage dive at the end(don't think that's ever happened during that song before or since?
The small clip of the dive is on TB2K briefly in the extras.
Usual ten club genius level counterintuivity. There's a new album out next week and they're busy reminding people that they like Pjs old shit better. Fucking frustrating.

Looking at some interviews from the last couple of albums. I knew about of the performance but i hadn't seen the interview before. Man they really are all better at this shit now lol.

And this one is good (matt talks!) once you get past the interviewer sounding like an austin powers villan, and eds hair situation lol.

Random question: Is eddies accent san diego? Chicago? or an amalgamation? neither? It isn't seattle like stones. I think. Matts from san diego too right? I guess its similar.

I'm from east michigan . I say melk,āggs, and ruff(roof). None of these happen in Grand Rapids and I have them pointed out to me all the time. My best guess it's a proximity to canada thing.

Funny you mention it. Listening to constitution hall today ed has a weird Midwestern almost country accent. In the sings and whilst speaking. That seems to have disappeared.

I've only ever said soda in jest. I also call shopping carts buggys.

Ed really looked bad in 2009. Puffy faced as hell.

He certainly didn't look like a cat.

Oh, and the infamous "plugs" everyone talks about are not plugs. That's make-up or spray on shit that he almost immediately stopped with.

THESE are plugs:

Yeah he did, i always wondered why lol. I thought it was put on for some of the songs but it did come through when he talked too, so idk. I was talking mainly about like 9.30 in that third video "its not the people its the music right" he kinda draws out his words, though actually i don't know if that an accent thing or just the way he talks.

On a different note:

From 5 mins onward, unless i'm mistaken theres keyboards or synths or something in the background? Who's playing them? or what is it actually? :?
