To say nothing of the fact that on an interpersonal level, the human beings who commission, write, and tweet about articles for NPR are living in the same stew of fucking inputs as the rest of them. No one wants to make the tweet that doesn't go viral. So even if there was no structural financial imperative to show return on investment, so to speak, you'd still have the exact same media class dipshits being like "what article can I write that will get attention."

Seems a lot of people think NPR programming is gov’t funded (I assume this is Burt’s angle?), but it’s not true.

They get a token pittance from the feds. What is it as a portion of their total budget? 10%?

I rather doubt the grants that fund most of their productions have a direct relationship to listener numbers.

My point is just that the programming itself isn't funded by the government, they need to raise those funds.
