Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

Should I make a thread about it?

Man, Eddie Vedder is having a survivor’s creative renaissance, and I am here for it.

I'm much more surprised by RM's reaction to this album than I am by the quality of the album itself.

Pleasant surprise, indeed!

What would your reaction to the album be if this was Pearl Jam’s 12th album and not a Vedder solo project?

The 1975 did it too (Matty's dad, he isn't dead but you got the two generations thing and it was nice)
I hope it wasn't this song by Matty's dad

The Haves and Picture are the only songs I really have no interest in. And this easily sits higher than LB for me. Quite shocked at how much I like it, especially after the Long Way (which is fine, but lyrically blah) and The Halves as the first singles.

Fuck's sake. On My Way is really lovely. Bastard song has completely wrecked me.

Pretty stoked. Because I think the things that aren't immediately appealing to me about the album are weaknesses that the band as a whole would strengthen. It's kinda of a pointless exercise because we don't know what the other guys would bring to these tracks, but based on past examples, I'm pretty confident the album would be even stronger.

Gigaton and then this. The sound or style of these records might not be for some, but it's hard to argue that any of it has that Getaway "(sigh) I guess they'll want a song like this..." stink of weary obligation to it.

I think the late 90's is the last time he was as casually playful with (and this unconcerned with adhering to the formula of) his music. Can't start a fire without a spark.

The highlights on this album are, to me, way the hell better than the type of highlights we got on BS and LB. There are things I don't care for, but it matters that Ed can summon something truly vintage here, and the production *does* seem better than BO'B to me. Sure, it's ridiculously glossy, but in a lively and committed way.

At least a third of the songs on this thing would be right at home on a good PJ album for me. Fallout Today should join their setlists.
