Despite some high points, this is the weakest album in Ed’s catalog.

While I wouldn't say that "We got the heavens, we got the Earth, and in between we got big surf / Who could ask for more?" is a good Eddie Vedder lyric, I do think one would be hard pressed to find a more authentic Eddie Vedder lyric. Those lines really make me smile coming from him. :heartbeat:

100%

The sentiment and the delivery together are pretty moving.

Oh, forgot to mention, the chorus of Power of Right reminds me a ton of Worldwide Suicide!

This is far and away my favorite of Ed's solo work. I imagine I'll actually listen to this one long after the newness has worn off.

Yeah, his approach to Invincible is so self-aware that the "big surf" thing works fine and made me smile, too.

I haven't listened to any of it yet. I avoided the zoom recording from yesterday, so will listen this afternoon. Do you think I'll fall closer to your opinion or strat's opinion?

I can’t imagine how any lifelong Vedder fan wouldn’t love the general vibe of this thing. The actual songwriting mileage varies quite a bit.

There’s no getting over the production for me; this is one of the worst kick drums I’ve ever heard! But a few of the songs are good enough that those things can be overlooked… And I don’t think Ed has ever had this much fun on an album.

You might actually like some of the harder songs more than I do. If there’s a chance for divergence of opinion, I’d say those tracks are where I’d expect to see that happen.
I think trag likes it but is having difficulty admitting it and getting past not being able to produce it himself.

Lol… I think the hard songs are where things tend to fall apart. The sense of lightness and playfulness gets muddied, and the production calls to mind the worst of late 90s radio rock. The guitars sound awful and Ed’s rage feels a little phoned in.

The non-hard rock genre experiments are where things really open up for me.

Edit: I was lol’ing Strat, not epilogue

I promise I won't write a 5,000 word essay on why I shouldn't tell everyone what I think of it. ;)
