Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

Invincible In the Dark and Fall Out are better than everything on Lighting Bolt

Brother The Cloud is good. The Dark is interesting - real vibes of The Cure there.

The rest... mmmmm.

I still can’t get over him holding a bass guitar on the cover.

WHY??

I really want to like this, but the production is killing me. It's got that modern drum sound that just sounds hyper-fake - like the performance was captured and entirely replaced with samples.* Loud, plodding sounds. I know that's the "thing" now, but, ugh.

* Bob Clearmountain was doing that kind of thing in the late 80s, but it made drums sound hyper-real, not hyper-fake.

Its a 4 string tenor guitar.

The tenor guitar or four-string guitar is a slightly smaller, four-string relative of the steel-string acoustic guitar or electric guitar. The instrument was initially developed in its acoustic form by Gibson and C.F. Martin so that players of the four-string tenor banjo could double on guitar

The Dark's lyrics are pretty heavy. Brother Fall Out and The Dark are super connected in a cool unexpected way.

Fall out with Binaural production would be so good.

He plays a 4 string guitar on record and live. I believe it might have been a gift from Andrew.

Context here matters. I drive for a living. I spent 14hrs with this yesterday. I am 100 percent sure I like this more than Gigaton Lb S/t Riot Act and Into The Wild. Backspacer is in the 11th inning with it.

Nobody hears Cat Stevens vibes in Mrs Mills verses?

They are pretty obvious.

Just gave the album a first listen this afternoon and yeah I picked up the Cat Stevens vibe and of course the Beatles.

Think of this while listening to The Dark.
