Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

This is a fun record with some great moments, but Lightning Bolt is the only PJ album it might possibly exceed for me. There's no way I'd ever rank this ahead of Gigaton or Backspacer.

Ed made another lightning bolt, but unlike lightning bolt, at least he meant to make a lightning bolt

picture is growing on me. It reminded me he recorded that e-ticket song, which is pretty much the same song but not as good

I just realized that the last 50 seconds or so of Picture is basically the Alive outro solo played on piano.

i shall listen for that. thats my favorite solo (quite possibly favorite musical moment) of all time so that may be why i was drawn to the outro

Good job, bammer. What else do you see in the photo???
Bro it’s a bass guitar. What are you on.
Its a 4 string tenor guitar.

The tenor guitar or four-string guitar is a slightly smaller, four-string relative of the steel-string acoustic guitar or electric guitar. The instrument was initially developed in its acoustic form by Gibson and C.F. Martin so that players of the four-string tenor banjo could double on guitar
This sounds made up
Spoiler: show
Tenor was a good starting word for Wordle though

After listening to it a third time, definitely really surprised at the quality. I was expecting much worse. Only PJ album I may prefer It to is backspacer though. But that’s probably the newness. Anybody who says this is a better record than gigaton is out to fucking lunch imo.

I’m not a fan of the protection on earthling though. It reminds me of bad BOB.

I had to go back and listen to some tracks off gigaton just to confirm how much better those songs sound. Josh is the man.

I'm OK with the production here but if they just recreate it on a new PJ album I will be very sad

Not really fair to compare this record with pj records of course. I do miss the grooves on earthling though. You can certainly tell it’s not PJ backing Ed.

I’m really digging this. Brother the Cloud and Mrs Mills are my two favorites but there’s several really good songs. We finally got a pop album from Ed with a couple other genre songs mixed in. Mostly just a fun listen and what’s wrong with that?

Yeah I’d be sad as well. Ed says in the interview with Bruce That he wasn’t used to having the songs sounds so good immediately. Seems Ed is really digging Watts and how he makes the music sound.

Like I hate how the guitars sound on power of right. Reminds of 2000 numetal.

nah the PoR guitar sounds good! it sounds tinny / trebly in an early NIN or Deftones way, even the more groovy Muse stuff

Agree to disagree.

Put that tone next to save you or rivals tone. I hate it.

if it sounded like a roomy rock song it would stick out like a sore thumb; that's just not what the album is, it's not PJ

For me Rose of Jericho and Good and evil are huge improvements to mostly unlistenable dribbling of Quick Escape.
Thank god Stone didn't disrail this with buckle up. The boredom of River Cross maybe the lowest point
In the Pearl Jam catalog. Gigaton is my bottom album. Comparisons can be made just compare them on their own merits. It would be like saying you can't compare Appetite For Destruction to Ten.
