what do you think?
Gorgeous textures, a little slow but not in an unpleasant way. Very much feels like Guillermo Del Toro remaking a movie from the 40s.
Finished this. Despite being ostensibly more uptempo, I felt like the second half dragged. Cooper's character is pretty one note and you could see the ending from a mile away. I thought Cooper did a good job of selling that final scene but it left me underwhelmed.

It's just okay so far, pacing and plotting pretty expected.

Laughed out loud at the crew member with a tray full of soup that was hit by a big fake hand. He laughed even harder.

American Madness (1932)

Early Frank Capra film. Doesn’t have the magic of It Happened One Night, but it does seem a little more modern than a lot of contemporary films. Capra had something unique about him.

It knocked the shit right out of me. I certainly don't expect everyone (maybe not even most) to have the same experience I did, but I do think it's absolutely worth seeing.

Man that is a movie I am categorically uninterested in. Not doubting that it's good in its own way, but I simply cannot imagine any amount of praise that would make me want to watch it.

It has one good set-piece, the "I want to be in America" song. It's the only part of the movie that struck me as really going for it and opening up and having fun. (That's also the best scene in the original, but more on the strength of the song itself). Most of the movie is just fifty sissy actor boys pretending to be tough (I'm sorry). I spent most of the movie laughing to myself at how silly it was, and then that one song in the middle laughing because of how truly lively and enjoyable it was
