It really ssomething. The Dark has that quality to me as well especially once I connected it to the "in the dark" lyric from Release.

Youre probably right, but it doesn't feel like PJ have done a rocker this loose and rollicking since probably Save You. I love all the other ones you mentioned, but they're all a little more studio sterile than this one - funny, because this is probably the most produced album anybody from PJ has ever made.

I would describe GSMF as loose and rollicking as well SBWM. I think a Mike solo ala SBWM would have added to Rose of Jericho, but it great how it is.Should had Flea sit in on that as well may add a trumpet.

Yeah this album is much better than what I expected, and the first two singles are the worst two songs on this album.

And this is pretty much how I felt after the first listen, well said daft twat:

Maybe my expectations are low, but this is exactly the kind of record I’d expect from a man pushing 60 who has lived a good life. Pearl Jam has been an important part of over half of my life, and Eddie is the main reason for that. This may sound fucking weird, but his obvious happiness in this collection of songs makes my enjoyment of the album that much greater because I’m so happy for him. Yeah, he’s a pretentious Have a lot of the time, but I really dig that the angsty young man I felt a connection with has become a happy old dad enjoying the fruits of a life well-lived. At this stage in my life, I’ll probably listen to this record more going forward than the PJ albums I adore.

I would also argue that the reason why the compositions are as good they are is because Ed didn't write the songs by himself, but had Watt and the rest of the band there to help him.

Wow this is cool Elton singing ya leading into that solo. This elevates the song. It is my least favorite song but hearing this improved it alot. My complaint was it was a bit boring. So a big pay off at the end is cool. Mike must love that.
