Eddie Vedder - Earthling

Songs from Gigaton that are way worst than almost every song on Earthling: Never Destination, Take the long way, Alright, Buckle up.

Songs from Gigaton that aren't better than the best songs on Earthling: River Cross, Superblood Wolfmoon, Retrograde, Comes then Goes.

Songs from Gigaton that would be at the top with the best 6-7 songs from Earthling: Seven o'clock, Quick Escape, DOTC, and maybe Who ever said.

I went 4 stars but really i could go higher...my appreciation for this album is growing with every listen.

Really the only tracks that i dont have at 4 stars (or higher) are The Haves and Picture, but even they are growing on me!

I'm coming around on it, Strat!
I haven’t said anything recently, but I like it. At first all I could hear was how derivative it was and also a relative lack of lyrical innovation, but like much of this album, it’s a grower for me. Album gets a solid 4. Fallout Today is a 5.

Awful take. Buckle Up and Take The Long Way might be the two best songs on Gigaton, and piss all over Picture and The Haves.

To me, Buckle up is kind of an extended interlude, nothing to be excited about, and Take the long way is just an average MC rocker.

But hey, it's just my musical taste.

It's amusing how wildly different some the rankings have been of individual songs. This album has so many influences (Petty, Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, etc.) I wonder how much personal experience with that influence is a factor. For example, I listened to a ton of Elton John so I'd rank Picture higher than most.

I'm digging it...even the Haves doesn't bother me as much as it did after repeated listens

probably 3.5-4 stars, which is better than I expected

oh and strat, I'm with you on Long Way...I did have a cooling period with it for a little bit but now I'm right back into loving it

I turned on Power of Right for a 2nd time, then thought I'd try Rose of Jericho. 15 seconds into Rose of Jericho I had to hit stop.
2/5 stars.

Current ranking:
Fallout Today
Invincible
The Dark
Brother the Cloud
Try
On My Way
Mrs. Mills
Rose of Jericho
Power Of Right
Long Way
Good And Evil
The Haves
Picture

Difficult with star rankings, are they on a EV solo scale, an all music out there scale, or even a Pearl Jam scale? Think five stars is a bit much if you consider all music ever made, or the best of Pearl Jam. But the first 3-4 are great, somewhere along the middle the songs are still good, and the bottom three I could do without.

Try is the most difficult to rate. I kind of love it, but it’s also really different, a bit much in a way.

3.5 is probably the right rating, but I'm enjoying it like it's a 4. I will round up enthusiastically.
exactly where i'm at. it's too fun not to round up.

Don't know if this has been clarified yet but on Smartless Ed said the band all came down and they did some recording last year with Watt. Said it sounded great.

This is getting close.

Wasn't the first time I listened to it.
