Re: 8. Glorified G vs. Rival vs. Wasted Reprise
Glorifed G has a great crackerjack riff and strong performances, but I don't like it when Eddie is sarcastic or mean, for the most part. He doesn't wear it well.
Wasted Reprise is nice, but not a full song.
Rival is the best of the pure Stone songs, and arguably the best song on Binaural. easy vote

Wasted Reprise was maybe my favorite interlude/coda/mood track (until Earthling and On My Way came round). I like it plenty, but this Rival, easy.

I like Glorified G and all, and need to repeatedly point out that at the time, I dated a girl who heard the lyrics as “glorified virgin and a pelican.”
That notwithstanding, Rival is great and easily the winner. Let’s see how far Stone’s dogs can advance in this tournament.

Apropos of this, I had a crush on a girl who thought Nothingman was Muffin ManCopperTom wrote:liebzz wrote:I like Glorified G and all, and need to repeatedly point out that at the time, I dated a girl who heard the lyrics as “glorified virgin and a pelican.”

I'd be so happy if Rival made it to the final four.

Rival has always been a song I really loved, but it's continued to climb higher and higher in my estimation; I don't know exactly where it sits now, but I'd put it in a grouping of my absolute favorite Pearl Jam songs. The riff is manages to be both catchy and unsettling; you want to both hear it for a loop for ten minutes and turn it off immediately. Every little thing the band adds, from the piano to Ed's backing vocals (which are appropriately buried in the mix but might be the craziest thing he's ever put on record) works perfectly. And the lyrics is not just one of Stone's best, but the band's.

Yes, I'd be happy with Rival winning the whole thing.evenslow wrote:thisdigster wrote:Rival has always been a song I really loved, but it's continued to climb higher and higher in my estimation; I don't know exactly where it sits now, but I'd put it in a grouping of my absolute favorite Pearl Jam songs.
