Re: 3. Jeremy vs. Dissident vs. Supersonic
Supersonic is exactly the type of song I wish Pearl Jam would never release (at least not on an album), despite a cool bridge and game performances.
Dissident is a classic that I lost interested in, though I've started to revisit and reappreciate a bit, especially its sentiment, which presages so many ideas that would be explored over the next 5 or so albums.
However, Jeremy is one of the three songs I am hoping wins this thing. It was once in the Dissident camp for me, but in the last decade or so it has totally regained its power. I may like it more now than I ever did before. Just a stone cold masterpiece.

Dissident has always been one of my least favourite early Pearl Jam songs. Supersonic is pretty awful. Easy vote for Jeremy.

Re: 3. Jeremy vs. Dissident vs. Supersonic
In years past, I would agree. Jeremy is still in elite company and I fucking love it so much.Anders wrote:Dissident is cool, but it’s Jeremy.
But Dissident has had a resurgence for me over the last couple of years. Once upon a time it was my favorite song on Vs. While that's not the case anymore, I have rediscovered how much I love it. The song feels fresh and urgent to me in a way Jeremy doesn't.

Jeremy, Oceans, and Release are the only three Ten songs that completely transcend the limitations of their production. What a monster.

It's fine. Feels forced. I prefer the original.stip wrote:what do you think of the RVM remixes of Black and Alive?tragabigzanda wrote:Jeremy, Oceans, and Release are the only three Ten songs that completely transcend the limitations of their production. What a monster.

I think I prefer Black. The Alive version is, from my view, the definitive version. The original Jeremy is the superior Jeremy, though

Re: 3. Jeremy vs. Dissident vs. Supersonic
These are now my three favorites from the album, as well, which is a big change from when I first heard it a long time ago; I definitely gravitated towards Alive and Why Go. Ten might be the record of theirs where there's the most difference between favorites when I first heard it and favorites now.tragabigzanda wrote:Jeremy, Oceans, and Release are the only three Ten songs that completely transcend the limitations of their production. But Jeremy's one of my favorite songs, and despite it's popularity doesn't feel tied to a previous era in the way some of the other Ten-era stuff does.

Re: 3. Jeremy vs. Dissident vs. Supersonic
I really love "Dissident." Underneath the admittedly middle-of-the-road arrangement, I find it's a really lovely song with some quirky things happening musically. I'd love to hear an instrumental version someday, or hear them tackle it in a Benaroya-style arrangement.
"Jeremy" is great and I even like "Supersonic" just fine, but "Dissident" takes this one for me.

Re: 3. Jeremy vs. Dissident vs. Supersonic
"Jeremy" is a monster of a song, still an all-timer after all these years. "Dissident" has grown from a midcarder to one of the real heavy-hitters on Vs, and today, I think that's what I'm feeling more. "Supersonic" can go ahead and take a hike.
