Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

More uneven, but with just as many highlights.

God, I love that. Can we start referring to him as Echo Victor? He should start every concert with that question.
Hop a flight to LA.
If it wasn’t midweek, I would. We have no subs in school. If I’m gone, 5 teachers have to cover. I can’t do that.

I love both ITW and Uke Songs, this is as good as both of them but not better for me; they're too different to compare

I prefer Uke Songs to ITW, and I probably prefer it to Earthling too -- I just really like the songs on it. But I agree that they're all so different -- and not only so different musically, but they all stand alone as these isolated career monuments. It's not like PJ albums where, as Stip likes to point out, they're all in conversation with each other in some way, where there is some artistic trajectory that they track intrinsically. They're hard for me to meaningfully compare.

That's easy for me. No question. This blows ITW out of the water.

Agreed very different. I don’t remember hearing Stevie Wonder on ITW.

ITW was life changing for me and a catalyst for some major change.

15 years later and a lot of struggle finding myself i have reached a specific period of my life that earthling seems to celebrate.

So, maybe kind of related in a way.

weirdly maybe, it's getting harder to call this a "solo" album? I'm asking myself what it means to use that, anyway; Ed definitely pulled a band together of prominent musicians, called them The Earthlings, did a tour; is "solo album" all down to branding? i.e. because of Ed's fame, if it's not "Pearl Jam", it's got to be "Eddie Vedder"? I'm not suggesting "solo" always means "I did ALL of this myself", but maybe I would have liked an album with a different title "by The Earthlings", given the extravagant guest list

am I overthinking this?

It’s a valid question. Brad and RNDM are side projects, while Stone Gossard solo and Jeff Ament solo, are solo albums. On the solo albums, all songs are written by that guy. They do have some guests, but do a lot themselves, and have no set band. In Brad and RNDM there’s a set group playing and writing the songs.

Somehow this is closer to Brad and RNDM in some ways, with split songwriting credits, and a set band that plays on most of the songs, or some on all.

But branding makes it a solo album.

Worth noting that the backing band "The Earthlings" seems to have been assembled after the recording of the album
