I know what you mean, I'm nearing the end of TSH and already dreading not having such a world to sink into.
I'm going to put some daylight between TSH and Tart's other books, but I will probably try to read both of them this year.

Goldfinch is on my list, but The Little Friend doesn't really call to me.

I absolutely hated Goldfinch. What a fucking mess. I think that's kept me from jumping into TSH even though I literally don't know a single person who has read it (TSH) and disliked it.

I vaguely remember some brouhaha when The Goldfinch was released, so the fact that it was polarizing makes me want to read it more.

I won't be surprised if it resonates with you. Most of my friends loved it. And I won't say it's badly written, it isn't. It just wasn't for me. The stuff that I liked and responded well to is all the stuff everyone else seemed to dislike.

So, it's not the book, it's me, is what I'm saying. You should definitely try it out for yourself and let us know what you think.

Interesting. I think the Vegas-ness of Goldfinch really intrigues me (as a former resident). I think you'd love The Secret History, Joe.

Does the boy in the explosion not go to Vegas at some point? I recall that being a significant aspect of the trailer for the film version, which I never saw.

Joe, you're going to have to read The Secret History to understand this, so get started:

Henry - Mickey
Francis - Joe
Charles - Malloy
Camilla - lenny
Richard - me?
Bunny - dime

Color me intrigued...

But I just started The City We Became, so TSH will have to wait.

Man, I have like six books at home in my to-read pile and there are at least two others that I can think of off the top of my head coming out in the next few months that I'm dying to read.... and yet still somehow TSH wants to shove its way to the top of the pile. Goddamn.

This is only the fiction because that's mainly what this thread is about. I read way more non-fiction nowadays, though. Fiction has to really grab me for me to feel like it's worth the large investment of time.

Also, that is my set of Fawlty Towers VHS tapes on the end there. I found them in a laundromat about eight years ago
