Re: 7. Even Flow vs. 4/20/02 vs. Superblood Wolfmoon
I've never liked 4/20/02. It feels a little weird to be disappointed in a private moment, and I am sure his grief is real, but I hoped for something more profound or interesting.
Even Flow is a classic, and I'd normally vote for it, but I fucking love Superblood Wolfmoon. My second favorite song on Gigaton. I love the lyrics, the playful energy in the performances, the way the song dances around an actual chorus, and the bridge (the solo and then the chanting) is maybe my second favorite moment on the album.
Focus on your focusness is maybe the most earwormy lyric on the album, and 'love notwithstanding, we are each of us fucked' one of my favorites. It is a 5 star song. I may tire of it someday, but not yet.
Easy vote for SBWM, the most underappreciated song on Gigaton. It's fucking awesome.

I agree with everything you said about Superblood. My friends hate it. I love it.stip wrote:I've never liked 4/20/02. It feels a little weird to be disappointed in a private moment, and I am sure his grief is real, but I hoped for something more profound or interesting.

Re: 7. Even Flow vs. 4/20/02 vs. Superblood Wolfmoon
This year is only my second time getting in on March Madness from the very start, and this matchup has made me suddenly see the appeal of taking a different approach to voting from one year to the next.
Even Flow probably "deserves" this vote, but both it and SBWM are 4.5/5 for me, and these days I'm 100 times more likely to put SBWM on that I am Even Flow, so.

Uniondale 03 remains my definitive live version of Even Flow.Strat wrote:I agree with everything you said about Superblood. My friends hate it. I love it.stip wrote:I've never liked 4/20/02. I think 4/20/02 is the better song, but I'm voting for Even Flow to send SBWM into the dirt where it belongs

I don't really know where to go with these kinds of votes; I'm sure I've listened to Superblood Wolfmoon far more than Even Flow in recent years, and Even Flow is one of the Ten songs that's dropped in my estimation over time. But I still don't think I can say the former is a better song.

Re: 7. Even Flow vs. 4/20/02 vs. Superblood Wolfmoon
This is a funny matchup. "SBWM" tries its little heart out, and I certainly don't hate it, but even a tired "Even Flow" feels like the stronger song. The memoriam for Layne is nice, but it's still a lesser song, all things considered.

Re: 7. Even Flow vs. 4/20/02 vs. Superblood Wolfmoon
I voted for "Superblood Wolfmoon," perhaps against my better judgment. "Even Flow" is a great riff, groove, performance, but on this day, at the moment I cast my vote, I'm feeling the wild ride of a composition that is "Superblood" more. I'm feeling a bit conflicted about it but I'm going with it.
