Take off 2 minutes. Tack one onto Rose of Jericho and the other onto On My Way.Ms Harmless wrote:The Haves' biggest offence is how long it is; it's not as important as it thinks it is

Hmm. Thought it was “the only rule is to keep your cool”Ms Harmless wrote:there's something really wonderful about how Ed in Invincible sounds like a pushy preacher ("yeah, so feel important!") but then says "holy rollers, keep your cool"; it's like he's channeling their voice to undermine them
And yea if you cut the third verse from the haves you have a fantastic song

The Dark, Fallout Today, Good and Evil, and Mrs. Mills are certainly some of his best songs since Riot Act. Better than anything on Backspacer or Lightning Bolt.

maybe it is lol, I like that too; he's used "holy rollers" before so that's where my mind wentStrat wrote:Hmm. I hadn't listened to this at all, but curiosity got the better of me recently.tragabigzanda wrote:EJ wrote:I still haven't listened to that. Heard a few songs. Meh.stip wrote:It's a little weird to me that the Earthling album thread is 9x as long as Flag Day
I haven't listened to the whole thing, but I like the title track much better than anything on Earthling.
It feels intimate, understated, and simply (and surprisingly) really enjoyable.
I still can't relate at all to the board's reception to this new record. I wasn't gaga for Gigaton, but I can recognise it's a substantial improvement in many respects, even if the songs (with a few exceptions) aren't entirely what I want from the band. This albums is legitimately awful however; it sounds bad and the songs are bad. I don't get it, but obviously it's really working for some of you.

I would think that at a minimum a song like Fallout Today would appeal to just about any Pearl Jam fan, as it sounds fairly era-less to me.

I think adding a verse, something about Dan Aykroyd or Ray Stantz, would make this song complete.Fattie_Vedder wrote:If you cut the first two verses you have an even better song!Strat wrote:Hmm. I think that's largely a testament to how much more enjoyable a listen Earthling is to Flag Day.stip wrote:It's a little weird to me that the Earthling album thread is 9x as long as Flag Day

Really like this -- it should be the 5-star option in the poll for that album. Kind of a PJ universe "cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs."Birds in Hell wrote:gaga for Gigaton

I still can't get over the fact that it's "not a gig" backwards, whilst my promised concert continues to phantom menace me.Kevin Davis wrote:Really like this -- it should be the 5-star option in the poll for that album. I'd agree with this, except it's a lot glossier than most of PJ's catalogue.RockPusher wrote:I would think that at a minimum a song like Fallout Today would appeal to just about any Pearl Jam fan, as it sounds fairly era-less to me.
