It's a little weird to me that the Earthling album thread is 9x as long as Flag Day

I still haven't listened to that. Heard a few songs. Meh.

I hadn't listened to this at all, but curiosity got the better of me recently.

I haven't listened to the whole thing, but I like the title track much better than anything on Earthling.

It feels intimate, understated, and simply (and surprisingly) really enjoyable.

I still can't relate at all to the board's reception to this new record. I wasn't gaga for Gigaton, but I can recognise it's a substantial improvement in many respects, even if the songs (with a few exceptions) aren't entirely what I want from the band. This albums is legitimately awful however; it sounds bad and the songs are bad. I don't get it, but obviously it's really working for some of you.

Try and I Can’t Get Behind That by William Shatner (lol) scratch a similar itch for me: fun and frenetic performances by weird player combos that you might otherwise have proposed while high.

“What if the drummer from the Chili Peppers, the singer from Pearl Jam, Stevie Wonder, and the guy who co-wrote Miley Cyrus’s last record all did a track together?”

That kind of loud, brash rock n' roll and its aesthetic - leather jackets, hot rods, beer, beards, etc - is something I find really difficult to find common ground with, so maybe that figures.

“Resurrection to the big old bang” “you are a whisper and a scream” and “we got big surf” rank among my favorite vocal deliveries ever from Ed. The guitars and keys mimicking the Crossroads demo is the most nostalgic thing anyone in the band has ever done. Invincible is absolutely top tier.
