Bergman Island, a little marvel, indeed
I think I'll do a re-watch of Persona soon. Not that I think they're similar, but I suspect that if there were riffs I missed it was on Persona. Plus, Persona is just truly great and deserves revisiting

What is it about that stuck with you? I think I just appreciated that it told kind of a small story about feelings and emotions, not great drama and destruction, but did it in a playful, cinematic wayMalloy wrote:glad you dug. it stayed on my brain for a whileThe Argonaut wrote:Bergman Island, a little marvel, indeed

also i like any artwork that’s like, “what’s the central feature of my form” and disguises itself as something else while going about pushing up against the limits of the answer to the question.

It definitely surprised me at multiple points (by never doing what I expected it to do) and it definitively answers its own question "is this a movie?"

That was interesting. Incredible the strength and artistic depth of German movies at this time, considering WW2 was just a few years away.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The 3h 42m runtime always seemed daunting, but today's the day I finally tackle Lawrence of Arabia.

Godspeed, good Farmer. I watched it like 12 years ago, but can’t remember if I split it up.Farmer John wrote:The 3h 42m runtime always seemed daunting, but today's the day I finally tackle Lawrence of Arabia.
