Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

Matters wrote:“Resurrection to the big old bang” “you are a whisper and a scream” and “we got big surf” rank among my favorite vocal deliveries ever from Ed. The guitars and keys mimicking the Crossroads demo is the most nostalgic thing anyone in the band has ever done. Invincible is absolutely top tier.
He sings so much of this record in his sweet spot. it makes me angry at all the great songs on the last few albums where he didn't.

I just remembered when watching than Zane lowe interview where He was telling Ed how “powerful and true that nothing will outlast the rose of Jericho” or something and Ed looked like he was thinking along the lines of..

I've been toying with this for:

Invincible
Brother the Cloud
Fallout Today
The Dark
On My Way (caveats apply, but still)

Try would be next for consideration.

They can't all get there. That'd be insane for a solo Eddie album in the year 2022. Right? Right?

With out question Invincible and The Dark. Try maybe, but it begs not to be. Doesn't want to loose street cred. Power of Right hit 5 for me in the last day or two. Binaural was the last PJ album with 3 or more 5 star songs.

Wasn't big on invincible at first but it's growing on me

Still.. dunno if I'd put it on the top half if I ranked the album

I’ve been skipping Long Way and Haves, but otherwise spinning the full record several times a day. Actually played through it twice in a row tonight as I was painting.

I think those aforementioned 3 are my limits. Mrs Mills is close. lots of other potential 4 star songs but i think those are my only top tier songs. Almost everything is good. I came around on power of right yesterday doing my write up, and even Long Way is fine in the album proper

fallout today or the dark should have been the first single, and mrs mills instead of the haves

where can i spot that? i havent really noticed, which speaks to the good work they did, I suppose.

I get Eddie’s vocal choices on ST as a direct response to Riot Act. It only works on about half the songs, but it makes sense why he did it. The Backspacer choices in particular were baffling, as were some of the glossier performances on L-Bolt. But whatever they did, Eddie sounds so much more comfortable here - singing in ranges he is comfortable with and aiming for that sustained soaring register rather than reaching for notes he can’t regularly hit or screams where they don’t necessarily belong. He is largely on point for Gigaton, too, I should say

My favorite moment on the album might just be the first few seconds of On My Way, where Ed's dad sounds so much like Ed that it's magical.

Mrs. Mills would have been a great single, especially because of all the hype around Get Back.
