How do you see the swallowed whole/fallout today connection?

Both vaguely remind me of REM. It may not be that logical.

Swallowed Whole has that jangly rem riff, and Fallout Today just kind of reminds me of something that could have been a poppier song in Accelerate or Collapse into Now or even a Document or Green, but with that acoustic sound instead of electric? I don’t know. There’s something rem about it I am not exactly placing.

Just listened to this album all the way through after Earthling. Two things occurred to me:

1) The quality of songs is a little better than I remember.

2) The production is dramatically worse than Earthling, an album that many here have derided for having poor production.
