Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a "special military operation" in Ukraine in a speech that appeared to serve as a declaration of war. I think the UN only got involved in Korea because the USSR was boycotting it over Taiwan having a seat instead of CCP, so only if you count self removal?

Have you seen any comparisons to Hungary in 56 or Czechoslovakia in 68? Its the same justification but far crueler implementation.

I don't know if the Ukranians really have the resolve for a long term insurgency, it seems almost as insane as the invasion. The Hungarians fought for a bit, the Czechs less so, maybe learning from the Hungarians.

In case you missed it, the Russians have specialized hard sided trucks for prisoner transport, and they were seen with Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) units from Chechnya.

This seems to suggest that they intend to invade pretty deep into Ukraine as these units are occupation troops, not the spearhead.

Yet those countries were already under the heavy influence and puppet rule by the Soviets under the iron curtain. There were uprisings, and maybe it's hindsight, but they were doomed to fail. I think this invasion, if it continues into a full ground invasion of all of Ukraine, is more similar to Poland in 1939, after Germany first had taken other land they felt belonged to them, to allegedly protect Germans in those areas. Although the consequences then were WW2, and that (WW3) won't happen only by invading Ukraine this time.
