Have you seen any comparisons to Hungary in 56 or Czechoslovakia in 68? Its the same justification but far crueler implementation.

I don't know if the Ukranians really have the resolve for a long term insurgency, it seems almost as insane as the invasion. The Hungarians fought for a bit, the Czechs less so, maybe learning from the Hungarians.

In case you missed it, the Russians have specialized hard sided trucks for prisoner transport, and they were seen with Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) units from Chechnya.

This seems to suggest that they intend to invade pretty deep into Ukraine as these units are occupation troops, not the spearhead.
Yet those countries were already under the heavy influence and puppet rule by the Soviets under the iron curtain. There were uprisings, and maybe it's hindsight, but they were doomed to fail. I think this invasion, if it continues into a full ground invasion of all of Ukraine, is more similar to Poland in 1939, after Germany first had taken other land they felt belonged to them, to allegedly protect Germans in those areas. Although the consequences then were WW2, and that (WW3) won't happen only by invading Ukraine this time.
The 39 comparisons are easily overblown though, and Russia has staked its claims as being anti Nazi, so...

The simultaneous Russian invasion of Poland gets limited mention, so not a good jumping off point.

My point was, worst case scenario was for Hungary and Czechoslovakia to become another Austria (Neutral, no real ability to project force) and that outcome was unacceptable to the USSR.

It has nothing to do with being Nazi. It's a full invasion of a free independent peaceful country. Hungary and Czechoslovakia were ruled by pro-Russian governments, not much changed for them. There were limited uprisings that were squashed.

Just turned on Fox News for shits and giggles to see what they are saying, and despite competent reporting on the situation, their whole underlying narrative is that this is all the American voters' fault, for "fraudulently" electing a weak leader that Putin isn't afraid of. Which of course implies that Putin was afraid of Trump, a thought so delusional and narcissistic it's almost funny.

The ruble has dropped to a record low against the dollar, falling roughly 6% over the last two days.

That’s basically it.

Rachel Martin on Morning Edition was interviewing Amy Klobuchar this morning and flat out asked her “don’t you think Putin considered all these sanctions before he invaded?” And her response was “he didn’t think the sanctions would be at this level” or some shit like that.

He doesn’t fucking care about sanctions. He knows no one wants to actually commit to sending troops to stop him so he just said “fuck you all, I’m taking it.”

There are three US B-52s in the air over Europe.
Just saw it on a military flight tracker thing.
I know there’s always a few in the air but not all in one region right?

Its a silly tit for tat thing we do with Russia. I don't think China routinely flies strategic bombers right to to edge of our aispace, so we don't do that with them.
