the whole "rockstar wife ruins rockstar's life" and "under the thumb" and "ball and chain", they're all related misogynistic tropes that are well-worn in rock music (Yoko ruined the Beatles, Courtney ruined Kurt, now Chris' wife is a demon hell creature)

1. I really hope Ed is better than that
2. ultimately it's still a great song, so I don't care what it's about, but
3. to get all up in arms about the possibility that there's misogyny anywhere near this song is ridiculously fragile; Ed is human and we've all said and done misogynistic stuff in our time, no big deal

oh also, also, I'm leaning toward PoR being just entirely fictional; he's always written dark edgy shit about female characters, but nobody is up nights wondering who or what "Why Go?" is about

What if these lyrics were written by Josh and is actually about John Frusciante returning to RHCP? He also has the power of rights...

The PoR lyrics are pretty intense. He clearly got something out of his system writing this, and that is a reason the song packs such a punch. I’m glad it was channeled into a song, whatever it was.

No errr I wasn't being sarcastic I was saying if you have a great singer why would the guitar player without a voice decide he should sing....um sorry. This isn't the first time I thought I was agreeing with you and got in trouble for it. I should have learned lol.

this. it's not 1992 but this is still Eddie Vedder. i don't think josh's voice is terrible, but following up Eddie Vedder on vocals probably isn't an easy thing. josh obviously loves the song and i don't think we would get the cover w/o him, but EV should sing the whole thing.

Nah no problem I've been rather down on PJ for a while (years) and probably earned your doubt. I'm as surprised as anyone that I'm coming out of my cynicism with all things PJ.

he's addressed the person in 'Why Go". that song was released in 1991, power of right came out last week.

I'm aware of when things were written, thanks, my (exaggerated) point was that last week or 1991, I'm not sure why everything needs to suddenly be "Ed hates a close friend of the family"; I just don't give a single shit about this line of thought

I haven't heard Ed address the meaning of Why Go, point is I don't care to

Looking at the lyrics for the first time because of this discussion. Through the lyrics I could pick out I thought this was another "Lightning Bolt" themed song. The right girl comes and saves a lost guy. I couldn't have been more wrong.
