Original, rewatch (it's on Prime again), absolutely love that movie. I refuse to watch the US one solely based on the decision to change the title to the far inferior "Let Me In"

Robin Hood (1922)

First time. Been looking for it for a long time, finally found it on Flixfling.

Douglas Fairbanks (not jr.) supposedly did his own stunts in this. Very impressive. It was the highest grossing film on 1922, and a true classic of the silent film era.

Nightmare Alley.

I liked it enough, im not a fan of Del Toro and i was surprised and amused on how violent the movie was. I dont think the ending worked that well.

I think the thinking was, she's always looking out for herself so as soon as Bradley Cooper's character fucked up she was ready to cut ties with him immediately, via any means necessary. Which makes sense but it also makes her pretty one dimensional. And the scene itself relied on this information dump/gaslighting, "what money, what are you talking about?" which was a really quick pivot--again, believable, but not interesting really.

Still, I enjoyed watching it. It wasn't a bad experience even if it was a letdown in the end.

yeah, i had a blast in the theatre, the movie looked awesome and it grabbed me.

When I was a kid I realized that I liked classic movies better than most of my contemporaries, and I probably still do. I didn’t know much then, but I knew I liked movies as old as Gone With The Wind (1939), The Wizard Of Oz (1939), Stagecoach (1939), The Maltese Falcon (1941) and Casablanca (1942). All came out between 39-42. What I had seen of older movies, seemed mostly outdated to me, even if I had a great respect for Chaplin. I was for some time of the opinion that 1939 was a giant leap in the development of the film industry. Only as a young adult did I see The Awful Truth (1937) and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), and got more familiar with 1920s gems like Sunrise (1927) and Metropolis (1927).

However, the one movie that really opened my mind, was It Happened One Night (1934). It was infintely more modern than even the great 1920s movies, and I kind of left it at that. Happy to have found it, ready for repeated viewings. Lately I have begun to ponder this. I have now seen many movies from each year, and the movie still seemed like a game changer to me. I eventually found out that Frank Capra was influenced by Ernst Lubitsch, and especially his 1932 masterpiece Trouble In Paradise. Legendary French director Jean Renoir (The Rules of the Game, 1939) went as far as crediting Lubitsch with inventing modern Hollywood. To learn more about it, I am reading a book about Lubitsch, and rewatching Trouble In Paradise (1932) now.

I watched Nobody last night at the insistence of my sister. It was ok. Just another revenge fantasy movie, but this time the main character was a lunatic that didn't really need any provocation.

Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't have a headache.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
