Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

It’s great that you guys are loving Invincible. I thought I might be a bit on an island with that initially, but I see that it’s getting lots of love. It’s such a cool song, I really dig it.

Invincible could have been the single. Done.

It’s definitely listed there.

I had the opportunity to listen to this in the car for the first time yesterday. Still just incredibly impressed with it.

And also still absolutely baffled that the celebrity guest tracks are *all good*.

It's just fantastic. It's one of those songs that feels unique in the Vedder cannon but it also feels completely authentic to him. It's somehow a perfect distillation of Eddie Vedder and a stretch for Eddie Vedder at the same time. It's catchy. Lyrically it's moving and universal. And, again, honest. Just pure Ed.

Like you, I assumed people weren't going to dig it. And like you I'm thrilled to see that's not true. :heartbeat:

It may reach top 10 status of Ed's work. I have a hard time believing it actually will, but it could. It would be the 4th non Pearl Jam song to be in the top ten of Pearl Jam cannon.

I said it when the album came out, and I still feel it now: Invincible will go down as the all-time classic from this set.

After a few listens, the 'tiers' for me have settled into place somewhat...

Try (I still think this is my clear favorite)
The Dark
Mrs. Mills

Rose of Jericho
Fallout Today
Good and Evil

Power of Right
Brother the Cloud

Long Way
Invincible
Picture
The Haves

I like On My Way, but it'd be strange to try to rank it or see it as operating in its own separate space, as opposed to being a capstone for the whole thing. In the end, a pleasant surprise for me, especially considering how I was feeling based on what we heard beforehand (I don't understand the single choices for this record). I can see myself coming back to my favorites fairly frequently, and I'm particularly still enjoying Try and The Dark.

Yes. And The Dark. The Dark would have been a great single off this.
