Ah, here we go:

Green Habit runs the 2005 tournament and introduces it with the words:
In coordination with the famous NCAA March Madness in college b-ball, we will hold the 2nd Annual PJ March Madness Tournament!

I'm thinking through my history here. I started posting around Riot Act (I THINK before it came out). Tracking march madness stats was one of my first more high profile board roles before I took over song of the moments. I became a mod in the run up to S/T. So there could have been an 03/02 March Madness. Maybe I am making this up?
Could be. My first memories of the board go back to trying to hunt down those three rumored and elusive Binaural outtakes.

I don't remember any MM tournaments prior to 04 but that doesn't mean they didn't happen. It's certainly possible.

I haven't found the impetus of the 2010 tournament, but it was two march madness style elimination tournaments - 90s and 00s. Then a joint championship to pick the winner, which was In My Tree. Only it took place in September.

Sounds a bit like what Stip are doing with the previous winners this tournament.

The differences here are important, though. The biggest being the removal of past winners (for now).

A strong match-up, with really good songs in both corners. For me, though, it's a case of one really good song that I've gotten a great deal of enjoyment from against one song that is one of my very favorite in the Pearl Jam oeuvre. Sublime performance and recording on "Immortality," but "In My Tree" is where I'd rather be.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... In My Tree is my all time favorite song by any band. As brilliant and moving as Immortality is, as much as I adore Vitalogy and Immortality's place in the cannon, there simply isn't a single song I'd vote for over In My Tree.

It is the best song. And will always get my vote.

I just...I can't reconcile this worldview with the reality I know. That second verse is SO plodding. I'm nodding off just thinking about it.

I honestly did when the album came out. But it's been years since it did anything for me.

Very true. I wonder what the collective "favorite" song of this decade would be. Or at least what songs most would agree are the top tier songs of that timespan. The "definitive" list of the 90's is pretty easy, the 00's not so much.

I'll put up a post 2000 tournament in the near future and we'll find out.
I think sometime during the 2000s tournament, stip was convinced to add the 90s tournament, and then the championship.
