i'm not sure they're really that 'high-concept', mickey.. i think they're more simple character studies of low-life scumbags.. i appreciate them more for their aesthetic and acting than any theme

this is similar in that the filmmaking heavily dictates his performance... this is definitely not a happy madison production

Both movies are exceptionally clear about the worlds their characters live in as long as you're not an absolute dipshit. The opening shot of Uncut Gems is the interior of a diamond mine that morphs into the lead character's diseased intestines.
