if the band didn't use porch as an extended jam with its lead singer making a name for himself climbing all over the place 30 years ago the song wouldn't get nearly as much love today.

Porch is an A-/B+ song with a furious conclusion that just rockets it into the stratosphere for me - with a few live performances that add to the perception of the studio take. But it's never been about the live take for me.

Although I think we could go to any of these songs and say 'if it wasn't for cool thing X or Y about it we'd like it less'

I just generally wish people didn't diminish other peoples love for a thing. "If it werent for this you wouldnt love that!!" Well, so fucking what? That's part of the thing and why I love it. its so dumb.

You wouldnt like that song if it werent pearl jam! Well, no fucking shit.

All or none is great and the only reason you like black is because of a mind blowing unplugged performance.

For quite a while, Porch, while good, has always been on the lower end in terms of Ten songs for me. It's not really a song I've ever fixated on or have been enthralled with. Nothingman is a favorite of mine, but in particular, the studio recording of that song is one of my favorite things the band has done.
