I’m sure I’ve voted against all four in at least a couple of rounds each

This is Release's first semi-final since 2007, though it usually makes the quarter finals. It has never won a tournament. It's been beaten by Black (3 times!), In My Tree (2 times!), Porch, Rearviewmirror (2 times!), Immortality, Tremor Christ, Hail, Hail, Do The Evolution, Brain of J. and Last Exit.

This is Nothingman's first semi-final, and first appearance above the top 16.

Immortality won the whole shebang in 2004 and 2008, but has yet to recapture the title, coming closest in a final loss to Tremor Christ in 2012. In the last 6 tournaments, the best its managed is a quarter-final loss against In My Tree in 2017.

Brain of J. has quietly become a serious contender in the last 6 or 7 years, with its best a loss in the 2016 final against Hail, Hail. It was beaten by Nothingman in 2007, but that won't have any bearing in 2022.

Do you count this as the full tournament, or do you include the coming matches with previous champions?

None of this matters when Go arrives at the party.

The way it's set up it will treat this as the "top 16ish", but I'm going to try make it more accurate to account for these types of championship brackets.

Thanks. I always look at what just misses the cut and wonder if those songs belong there instead.

Since at some point during MM I end up giving each album a full listen it's time to rank the openers and closers, courtesy of Abnorman's ultra scientific ranker (this was the very song vs every song version):

1. Last Exit (Vitalogy)
2. Life Wasted (Avocado)
3. Go (Vs)
4. Who Ever Said (Gigaton)
5. Brain Of J. (Yield)
6. Once (Ten)
7. Can't Keep (Riot Act)
8. Gonna See My Friend (Backspacer)
9. Breakerfall (Binaural)
10. Sometimes (No Code)
11. Getaway (Lightning Bolt)

I don't dislike any of these and love 1-8. On a different day Can't Keep might nudge out once, and 2-4 are fairly interchangable

And closers (and immortality is my vitalogy closer. Stupid Mop is a hidden track they were gracious enough to give a separate track number to so that it wasn't a pain in the ass to put immortality on a mix cd!

1. Immortality (Vitalogy)
2. Release (Ten)
3. Indifference (Vs)
4. River Cross (Gigaton)
5. Parting Ways (Binaural)
6. All Those Yesterdays (Yield)
7. Future Days (Lightning Bolt)
8. Around The Bend (No Code)
9. All Or None (Riot Act)
10. The End (Backspacer)
11. Inside Job (Avocado)

Don't dislike any of these, but Inside Job is the clear bottom. In terms of my own personal listening Future Days would be five due to my sentimental attachment, but trying to think about which songs I think are better (or which I would be more likely to put on a playlist for someone) Parting Ways and All Those Yesterdays edges it out.

Pre MM The End, and maybe Inside Job, would have been ahead of All or None

It’s not a hidden track if the name of the track is on the sleeve and the disc/ tape/ record, stip.
