Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I was kinda let down by the ending when i saw it for the first time, then i listened to Baker´s idea behind it and i got it. Yeah, great movie but i would put it behind Starlet and Tangerine.

I need to re watch this one and Red Rocket.

Also, very happy to hear his early movies are coming out again remastered.

I’m not sure Tom Cruise ever got his due credit for his performance here. He can actually be an outstanding actor. Loved him in magnolia also. I guess I only like him when he’s playing an awful person with father abandonment issues

Yeah I loved his reasoning, and I really appreciate the use of form to signify that shift into fantasy. It was also really affecting for me as someone who grew up near the Tampa area, and so is very aware of the gap between real Florida and the Florida that's consumed in like Disney World ads and shared via vacation photos.

I started Tangerine years ago and turned it off but I'm gonna go back to it now.

I'll have to sit on it a bit but I was utterly enthralled. I've also tossed around the idea of pitching a class called like "Finding Florida" or something, basically a case study of place and representation centered on the most hated state--Magic Mike, Spring Breakers, Zola, Annihilation, Lauren Groff, Kristin Arnett, etc. This would slot right in.

Tangerine is possibly the best and most respectful film we've ever had about trans women's survival and friendship; the fact that 1. it's funny for the right reasons, 2. it respectfully portrays homeless Black trans women, 3. the two stars are both trans women in real life and not cis men, well all of that makes it a must-watch for me

Rewatchables spent a significant portion of the episode giving Cruise his due for holding down the fort while Hoffman acted like a cartoon character

Rewatchables don't really know what they're talking about most of the time. Especially when it comes to acting. It's kind of amazing.

yeah, other thing i loved about the film is how he shows Florida. I think a year after i saw it i went to Disney with a friend and we stayed in a very low budget hotel and i could appreciate it more with the knowing the film gave me.

Thinking about watching this soon. I remember liking 20th Century Women when I saw it but I couldn't tell you anything that happened in that movie
