After about 10,000 listens of each through the years, Hail, Hail is way ahead. Still love me some DtE, but it's an extremely easy call for me.

I just listened to both. HH first, DtE second. HH sounds awesome, but DtE is something no other band could possibly do. And Ed’s vocals are insane. And those guitars... and Jeff... and I haven’t even mentioned Ja....
Guys, it’s Do the Evolution

I am disappointed with the result. DTE deserves better and Hail Hail is overrated on RM.

I love Hail, Hail, but it's Do the Evolution for me. As some folks mentioned, it's pretty striking to go back and listen to the Yield version; I think we've become used to it's status as a live staple, and tonally, it's now pretty far afield from where the song started, but that studio version is still wild, and manages to be completely Pearl Jam while not like anything they've done before or since.

I switched to Do The Evolution. I've probably listened to Hail Hail more, and it probably means more to me, but DTE is the better song.

DTE in 98 was an orgasmic experience.

Re: 130. Hail Hail vs. Do The Evolution
DTE shares a lot of DNA with goofy political performance punk like Whip It or Holiday in Cambodia.
I'm not suggesting this is a bad thing; it's an awesome song.
But it kind of foreshadowed stuff like Can't Deny Me or Mind Your Manners, where the structure of the song isn't really there to engage so much as to provide an on-ramp for some very on-the-nose political opinion lyrics.
