Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
this album is great, but i have a hard time comparing it to gigaton the way i compare gigaton to other PJ albums. this doesn't sound like pearl jam, it sounds like eddie vedder and his friends. the closest thing I can compare it to is C-Average or that club show EV played in Italy with like 2 or 3 other people. this is probably the best thing EV has done outside of Pearl Jam, but I don't think its better than Pearl Jam. this album almost makes me appreciate the other members of Pearl Jam more.

I honestly don't see the need to compare this to Gigaton.

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
exactly
part of the reason I like it is that it's the first Ed solo album that is enjoyable in its own right and doesn't remind me of some aspect of Pearl Jam; it's without a doubt "Ed and his friends", flaws and all

I was just curious. It’s was a simple question.Ms Harmless wrote:I don't know what you're asking of me, but appreciation of these songs is subjective; if you love them to death that's greatlowlight79 wrote:What's not good about them?Ms Harmless wrote:by being not goodlowlight79 wrote:How?Ms Harmless wrote:"Long Way" and "The Haves" keep this from being as good as Gigaton

the question assumed that all of the songs were obviously 10/10 and any detraction from that needed a justification
but a simple answer would be, both songs are severely underwritten; everything else on the album feels much more fully formed

Yeah I have put this down for about a week myself. I almost started to play it this morning but I changed my mind at the last second. I probably overdosed for a few weeks on it.

Just heard Getaway right after POR and i am blow away how much better the vocals sound on POR. What is at play there? I can't pinpoint it but POR sounds more "live". Less processed.

What proof can you offer that my assumption was both songs were 10/10. You’re response is comical to assume that. You are turning an assumption into fact with nothing to prove it. Either way. I know why I don’t come here much anymore.Ms Harmless wrote:it wasn't, reallylowlight79 wrote:I was just curious. I don't need to prove an assumption lol but the way you phrased the question was why I interpreted you the way I did, as well as the context being "is this album as good as Gigaton?" and there being no default or correct answerlowlight79 wrote:What proof can you offer that my assumption was both songs were 10/10. I don't know why you don't come here anymore, but I wasn't the one who asked you to justify yourself

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
I think part of that could be compression but also the vocals seem lower in the mix on LB. In particular on that song, the bass is pretty high. I haven't tried this in high def with headphones.Habitman wrote:Just heard Getaway right after POR and i am blow away how much better the vocals sound on POR. What is at play there? Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
The first 5 songs on Gigaton are really good. I like hearing them every time. What pushes Pearl Jam from good to great for me is usually connected to how the music effects me when I’m not listening to it. How it plays in my head. How I crave the songs as much as I do physical things. That’s the difference for me. Ed got there again on Earthling.RockPusher wrote:I really like Earthling but that's a hard disagree. I don't think I'm alone in thinking the first 5 tracks on Gigaton are better than just about anything Earthling has to offer, but also why compare Ed's solo album this way to Pearl Jam? They are so different. When I listen to Pearl Jam, I want to hear Ed's words and singing, but I also want to hear Stone and Jeff drive that rhythm and those sweet McCready touches and solos. The interplay betweet Matt and Jeff on Quick Escape is phenomenal. The creativity of the band in general on Dance. Ed rocks on Earthling, but even when it sounds like Pearl Jam, as in the case of Fallout Today or the back end of The Dark, it is a loving imitation, or at best, impression of Pearl Jam.Matters wrote:My count is at least 4 songs* that top anything on Gigaton

I will listen to Haves one time out of every 5 or 6, and to Long Way only if I’m in the car. Otherwise everything is fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.liebzz wrote:I do the same but instead tend to skip The Haves.Anders wrote:Still listening to this several times a week (without Picture).

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
It's a good album for sure, but my wife has been playing it 2-3x a day since release, and it's starting to bug me.
