But in the case of seatbelts, isn’t it pretty much a fact that they make you safer? So why argue about seatbelt laws as something that is the government trying to control you? Seems like arguing for the sake of arguing
Isn't it a fact that not eating sugar or processed foods would make you safer?

Laws are unquestionably trying to control you. That's literally what a law is.

What if I don't want to be safer? I know it sounds crazy to people here. I know most people here are completely incapable of understanding why anyone would ever ask such a question. But am I allowed to exist in your world? Or must I be stopped by you?

I mean the sugar example isn’t really the same because people can live healthy lives while still eating some sugar.

So we should have no laws? What’s your line here? I’m just trying to understand your perfect society.

Right, the sugar argument is ridiculous. You can moderate sugar, you can't moderate reckless behavior.

People can live healthy lives not wearing seatbelts, too.

I don't think there should be laws forcing people to make "good" decisions about their own health, because you or no one else has any business deciding what is best for someone else.

How many people are seriously injured because they didn't wear a seatbelt over the course of their lives vs how many people die from diabetes and heart disease and cancer? Do you even know?

They think of themselves as the saviors of all mankind, so they can't do anything wrong even if they have to force people to make "good" decisions (as defined by them, naturally). It's pathological.

Next time I walk down Main St and have to piss, I'll just pull my dick out and piss on the sidewalk, in front of everyone. Because... freedom.

I'm not overweight but I see your point. This is why I said above that there has to be a line somewhere. There are some things we can do to help, and some things are beyond what we want the government to try to control. You don't do your argument justice by comparing seatbelt laws to totalitarianism.
