That Batmobile engine still gives me an ear boner.
I watched it a second time on Friday and did find many more details to love, but one thing bugged me: there's a stretch halfway through the movie where there's SO MUCH TALKING. Just a bunch of characters standing around explaining plot points to each other, culminating in an extremely long scene where they stand around listening to a voicemail. I know it's a dense story they're trying to tell but there must have been a way to finesse it, maybe trimming down the whole Thomas Wayne / Falcone sideplot slightly.
Still really love it; the score is better than I remembered and I had almost forgotten how thrilling that car chase is. Still simping for that gorgeous flare gun sequence at the end, too. My overall live-action solo Bats ranking is probably:
Batman Returns
The Batman
Batman 89
The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight Rises
Batman 66
Batman Begins
Batman Forever
Batman & Robin

It didn't have a hard time keeping up, it was maneuvering through incoming traffic and trying not to kill people. It hit the back of Penguin's car multiple times! It blew through a giant gas explosion like it was nothing!

It's a jet powered tank! That chase should have lasted like two seconds.
I watched it a second time, too, haha. I'd agree that it is even better the second time around. It's a technical triumph, if nothing else. Whatever the hell that means!

Once piece I missed that flew by the first time were the shots of the shadows when the Batsignal is first lit and how ominous they become to the criminal element. Bats could be coming out of them at any moment. Very cool tone-setter.
